Taking Care of Business Corporation Commission Chairman Patrice Douglas starts new term, continues push to adopt best ideas of the private sector

Saying the Corporation Commission needs to continue to move ahead in improving service to all stakeholders, Oklahoma Corporation Commission Chairman Patrice Douglas has begun her new term in office.

Douglas said the first two days of what could be considered “business as usual” clearly showed the challenging and varied responsibilities of the Commission.

“In our daily public meetings on Monday and Tuesday, the Commissioners voted on 134 orders ranging from matters involving millions of dollars in oil and natural gas activity, to the fuel costs paid by utility customers, to protecting the environment and the public from an ancient abandoned oil well to helping a service station stay in business while still meeting environmental requirements,” Douglas said.

“Given the broad scope of this agency’s responsibilities, it’s vital we continue the work to improve our service to those we regulate, consumers, and to the taxpayer,” Douglas added. “I am excited to spearhead a strategic planning process that will bring some of the best ideas of the private sector into the public sector.”

Douglas was appointed to the Commission by Governor in October 2011 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of . She was elected Chairman by her fellow Commissioners on August 1, 2012. Douglas ran unopposed in the 2012 general election. Her new term ends in January of 2015.
