NOT ME, BUT YOU!

National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. It was introduced with the motive of developing student's personality through community service. It is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of accepting voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage. The overall objective of the scheme is educational and service to the community.

It is been functional in Savitribai Phule Pune University (then Pune University) since 1969 as a part of the regular academic program becoming an important part of realm of the University curriculum.

The NSS cell in PCCoE was established in the year 2005 and since then has been majorly contributing to bring a positive change in and around the society. The NSS cell at PCCoE has evolved over the years like the society and technology around has. Every year the NSS cell has tried to figure out different problems in the society that have predominantly existed in the society and have tried to find and execute various solutions to extradite them from society. Over the last decade many activities were conducted under the cell beginning from cleanliness to now working for society during COVID19 pandemic, every activity was planned to address the current need for the society. Through activities like blood donation, cloth & blanket rendering, tree plantation, social awareness the NSS cell has tried to bring a positive change through these for the upliftment of the society by catering the domains of welfare, hygiene, development, education and socio-economic transformation. Using all available communication mediums like art, craft, social media etc. the cell has always tried to diversify its objectives to encapsulate all different societies. Through the Special Winter Camp conducted every year the cell has tried to reach out to every individual residing in the villages of the country and contribute in bringing a socio-technical change across the society so that every individual becomes an asset in the development of his village, society and country in the bigger picture. The initiatives and activities under the cells have not just brought a positive change around but has been a major factor of characteristic change of every student who has been part of the program as a volunteer; the platform has been a driving factor for a strong change in the personalities of every individual who become the part of NSS family.

Being one of the most proactive cells from the engineering faculty under the Savitribai Phule Pune University domain where volunteers are pursuing technical education, NSS PCCoE has always taken the initiative in providing technical inputs for a sustainable change process. The NSS cell has always believed that everything cannot be done alone, saying that there also has to be someone to initiate and bring people together to transform things at a global stage and the cell has made its mark by taking initiatives upfront and implementing them.

We at NSS PCCoE believe that the work has just begun and there is still a long road ahead but we know that with determination, dedication, hard work and with the spirit of team work we are going to achieve all the objectives which we had instituted the cell in our college. It’s been a great journey so far and we wish it remains the same, forever!
