National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. It was introduced with the motive of developing student's personality through community service. It is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India accepting voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage. The overall objective of the scheme is educational and service to the community. It is been functional in Savitribai Phule Pune University (then Pune University) since 1969 as a part of the regular academic program becoming an important part of realm of the University curriculum. The NSS cell in PCCoE was established in the year 2005 and since then has been majorly contributing to bring a positive change in and around the society. The NSS cell at PCCoE has evolved over the years like the society and technology around has. Every year the NSS cell has tried to figure out different problems in the society that have predominantly existed in the society and have tried to find and execute various solutions to extradite them from society. Over the last decade many activities were conducted under the cell beginning from cleanliness to now working for society during COVID19 pandemic, every activity was planned to address the current need for the society. Through activities like blood donation, cloth & blanket rendering, tree plantation, social awareness the NSS cell has tried to bring a positive change through these for the upliftment of the society by catering the domains of welfare, hygiene, development, education and socio-economic transformation.

India as revealed in the inscriptions it is necessary to first deal with the geographical and geological features of the re­ gion as they are the prime factors for the very existence of the Buddhist rock-cut caves* Other contributing factors such as the passes, trade-routes and climatic condition should also be seen as the flourish and prosperity of the Buddhist establishments depended upon them. A. Geographical Features The centres of rock-cut architecture with inscriptions under study are located in the western and southwestern parts of the present State of Maharashtra, between 16 to 21 N and 73 to 76 E. This region consists of two major relief divisions, the plateau and the coastal strip. The two are intervened by the Sahyadrian chain of mountains, and crossed by several parallel hilly ranges emitting almost perpendicularly on either side of that chain.* The coastal strip in Maharashtra comprises of the districts of Ratnagiri in the south, Raigad in the middle and Thana in the north. These districts are flanked by the Arabian sea in the west and the Sahyadrian wall in the east. Konkan is an undulating land characterized by low level plateaus of laterite, estuarine plains of rivers, transverse ridges having medium to low heights and some isolated hills. The characteristics of the coastal areas are the alternating bays and headlands providing a number of natural har­ bours. The north konkan has a flat surface of loam and alluvial soils which prompt easy exploitation by man.

Patil Vidyapeeth, Tathawade, Pune 411 033, India ABSTRACT Algae are the most ancient, versatile and robust forms of organisms adapted to varied habitat throughout the world. They hold enormous potential as neutraceuticals, cosmoceuticals, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy sources, carbon dioxide sequesters, phycoremediators etc. The tropical climatic conditions prevailing in India favors natural biodiversity of algae over a wide range, that needs to be explored for their environmental and industrial applications. The study includes a systematic survey of collection and identification of various freshwater algae from different zones of Indian freshwater bodies; beginning with the state of Maharashtra and will consequently cover other regions of the nation. The procured data has been presented in the form of a database, created by extracting and integrating various online resources to provide the true and reliable data. It is implemented by SQL server relational database through user friendly web interfaces using HTML, asp.net and vb.net. Flexible search options are provided for data extraction and exploration. To summarize, algal species, their natural availability, flourishing season, optimum temperature, rainfall, soil type, physiology in relation to their ecology ; with all in one place along with the necessary option of cross-referencing; this database ensures to be an utile for researchers to carry out further work in phycology.
