That was the Ivorian's final kick for the club. • This season Chelsea made up for their 2012/13 disappointment, when they became the first UEFA Champions League holders to fail to survive the group stage. That early exit was the only blot in 12 otherwise consecutive qualifying campaigns; this term, the Blues won their group for the eighth time in that period. • José Mourinho masterminded Chelsea's sole round of 16 defeat between 2006/07 and 2011/12, against an FC Internazionale Milano side also featuring Wesley Sneijder in 2009/10. • Although they reached the second group stage in 2000/01 and again the next year, Galatasaray's only past experience of the round of 16 came last year when they beat FC Schalke 04 4-3 on aggregate. The home leg ended 1-1, Burak Yılmaz opening the scoring. Hamit Altıntop and Burak were on target in the away match, substitute Umut Bulut firing the winner. Previous meetings • The teams have met on one previous occasion, the 1999/2000 UEFA Champions League group stage. Chelsea won 1-0 at home, Dan Petrescu (52) scoring against opponents who lost goalkeeper Claúdio Taffarel – now part of Galatasaray's coaching staff – to a 30th-minute red card. The Blues triumphed 5-0 away. • The lineups at Stamford Bridge on 28 September 1999 were: Chelsea: De Goey, Ferrer, Leboeuf, Desailly (Høgh 63), Petrescu, Morris, Wise, Ambrosetti (Poyet 72), Babayaro, Sutton (Flo 85), Zola. In the 2003/04 group stage, they lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge against Beşiktaş JK, triumphing by the same scoreline in the away game at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. • After Beşiktaş's victory, Chelsea established a long unbeaten run in home group fixtures which extended to 29 games (W22 D7) before FC Basel 1893 prevailed at Stamford Bridge on matchday one this season. • Galatasaray have not won in eight visits to English clubs, drawing three and losing five. Overall their record is W3 D8 L7. • The closest they came to victory was in the 1993/94 UEFA Champions League second round. Having trailed 2-0 early on, Cimbom led Manchester United FC 3-2 at Old Trafford midway through the second half, only for Eric Cantona to conjure an 80th-minute equaliser. Their away goals proved crucial in taking the Süper Lig side through after the home leg ended 0-0. • In 1999/2000 Galatasaray beat Arsenal FC 4-1 on penalties after the UEFA Cup final in Copenhagen had finished goalless after extra time, becoming the first Turkish team to win a UEFA competition. Match background • Chelsea, looking to pick up a European trophy for a third straight year after capturing the UEFA Champions League in 2012 and the UEFA Europa League in 2013, topped Group E by a two-point margin from Schalke despite home and away defeats by Basel. They won all four other fixtures without conceding a goal, downing FC Steaua Bucureşti 4-0 away and 1-0 at home and Schalke 3-0 home and away. • Chelsea have won six and drawn one of their seven home games in European knockout rounds since a 1-0 loss to Manchester United in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. • Mourinho, who has landed the UEFA Champions League with both FC Porto (2004) and Internazionale Milano (2010), is bidding to become the first manager to win the European Cup with three different teams. Only Bob Paisley (Liverpool FC 1977, 1978, 1981) has collected the trophy three times as coach. • Galatasaray lost their first Group B match 6-1 at home to Real Madrid CF, Roberto Mancini subsequently replacing Fatih Terim as coach and overseeing a draw at Juventus in his first game on matchday two. Team ties • Drogba was at Chelsea between 2004 and 2012 – playing under Mourinho from June 2004 to September 2007 – and scored 100 goals in 226 top-flight matches. He also won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups. • Emmanuel Eboué represented Arsenal between 2005 and 2011, playing alongside Ashley Cole from 2004 to 2006. • Mancini managed Manchester City from December 2009 to May 2013, guiding them to the Premier League crown in 2011/12. A world that has an enormous economic and political power. In today’s world, the final of UEFA Champions League or 100 metres race of Usain Bolt, which takes even less 10 seconds to watch, or NBA Finals bring millions of people in front of their televisions all around the world or to stadiums. This is only possible by sport and when there is a huge economic market and many people in the same sphere, the intervention of the politics into this field becomes inevitable. Already sport and politics were close to each other since the ancient times, but globalization and modernization brought this relationship to another level. This is also what happened in Turkey and by the time, politics and sports were intertwined. What is unique in the case of Turkey is the existence of a very dominant political authority, the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi / AKP).

    Yaşadıklarım: (Hatıralarım) Sivas`ın İmranlı kazası`nın Alanyurt köyünde, Alirıza ve Fatma Tekin çiftinin 12.03.1951 tarihinde ailenin 6.çocuğu olarak dünyaya geldim.Bizim yöremizde bizi molla Hasan`ın torunları olarak tanır ve bilirlerdi.Rahmetli dedem olan molla Hasan`ın ismini bana vermişler. Dolaysiyle ismim de buradan gelir.8 kardeşten oluşuyoruz. 2 si kız 6 sı erkek. Biz şuandaki ismiyle Alanyurt köyü daha önceki tarihi ismiyle de Haceloğlulları köyünde, önde gelen bir aileyiz.Tahsilime ilk kez İmranlı kazası ilkokulun da başlamıştım. Henüz bir kaç ay okula gitmiştim ki, aniden rahatsızlandığımdan Sivas Numune Hastahanesine götürüldüm. Numune Hastahanesin de bir hafta yattım. Ancak, herhangi bir teşhis konulamadığı için rahmetli babam beni alıp, o tarihlerde 1957 senesinde İstanbul`a götürdü. Vakit geçirmeden Haydar- paşa Numune Hastahanesine yatırdılar. İstanbul`a ilk Gelişim: İstanbul`da Haydarpaşa Numune Hastahanesine gelişimin 3.gününde benim rahatsızlığımın apandisit’ten kaynaklanan sancılar olduğu tesbiti yapıldı. Dolaysiyle, Haydarpaşa Numune Hastahanesinde ameliyat oldum.Ameliyatı mütaakip bir süre sonra da taburcu oldum.Daha sonra, ilk işim benim rahatsızlığımı tesbit eden Dr. Sadri Tonguç`u ziyaret ederek tanışmak oldu.Rahmetli babamla birlikte onun muayenehanesine gittik. Kendisine bana yapmış olduğu bu iyilikten dolayı teşekkür edip, götürdüğümüz bir küçük hediyeyi taktim ettik. Oda hiç beklemediği bu ziyaretten ötürü memnuniyetini belirtip, bana hemen orada bir de teklifte bulunmuştu. Bu teklif benim için çok tarihi ve önemli bir teklifti. Bana şevkat ve sevgiyle yaklaşan Dr. Sadri Tonguç, dedi ki, Hasan`cığım sen gel bizde kal. Senin yaşlarında benim Ali isminde bir oğlum var. O da çok yalnız birlikte okula gidersiniz tatilde de sen benim muayenehanemde bana yardım edersin dedi.
