SOCCER AND FOOD FAIR What a wonderful time we all shared at our very memorable Soccer and Food Fair! The Cape Winter day was perfect, the vibe was upbeat and everyone entered into the spirit of the occasion. We are indeed fortunate to have such supportive and enthusiastic families at Bergvliet Primary School. The happy winners of the second lucky draw for soccer “goodie bags”for those who had returned a completed yellow card of soccer balls were: Mathew Jennings (6N), Liam Meder (7W), Simon Jenner (3A), Kimberley Feder (3S), Sharlene Wallace (1GW) and Ameer Sambo (3S). The final draw on Saturday, 29 May, for the two “top” prizes of original 2010 Soccer World Cup gear, resulted in an exciting win for Iptishaam Majiet (Gr 3A) and Aidan Katzef (Gr 7H). Prizes were also awarded to Leigh-Marie Adriaans (Gr 3M) and Russell-James Hyde (Gr 4H) who each filled four yellow cards, and Daniel Goliath (Gr 7W) who filled three cards. For those who still wish to purchase vuvuzelas (R30,00), fun soccer helmets and the 2010 Soccer World Cup revolving nightlights (R200), these will be available for purchase at the School Office from MONDAY, 07 JUNE until WEDNESDAY, 09 JUNE 2010 ONLY. MY-SCHOOL PLAY IT FORWARD CAMPAIGN At Assembly on Friday, 21 May 2010, Mrs Noor’s Grade Six class collected the prize for the most swipes that week. Each learner received a South African flag buttonhole-badge. The following Friday, 28 May, they won again, each one receiving a Woolworths voucher for Lays chips and a fruit juice. GRADES FOUR AND FIVE DRAMA EVENINGS The Grade Five Drama Evening was held on Wednesday, 12 May and the Grade Four classes performed on Wednesday, 19 May 2010. Both evenings were a great success with amusing and gifted performances, excellent behaviour from actors and learners in the audience and good entertainment was offered to our guests. CONGRATULATIONS TO ….. We are proud to share the good news brought by Daniyal Matthews (Gr 5M) of his success at the Western Province Track Cycling Championships at the Bellville Velodrome on 26 – 28 March 2010. In the U12 category Daniyal collected silver in the 750m, 1500m and 5km races. Daleel Hendricks (Gr 5P) took part in the Western Province Karate Tournament held at the Belhar Sports Centre on 22 May 2010 where he was awarded a Silver Medal in Kata and a Bronze Medal in Kumite – Daleel has belonged to his karate club for the past five years and has no doubt worked hard to achieve this success. Ethan Daniels (Gr 4P) was awarded a Bronze Medal at the finals of the Interprovincial Gymnastics Competition in Oudtshoorn. He has earned a place as a Western Province representative and will compete for South African colours in Stellenbosch in June 2010. We are also very pleased and proud to be able to share the good news that Alexa van Rooyen (Gr 7W) has been awarded an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Scholarship to commence her high school career in 2011 at Rhenish Girls’ High School. CHOIR EISTEDDFOD The Choir section of the Cape Town Eisteddfod was held at Bergvliet Primary School on Saturday, 22 May 2010. The hall was full to bursting with some 1000 people attending this year’s performances. Both our Bergvliet Primary School choirs sang well, performing with obvious enjoyment and confidence. Both choirs were awarded High Honours by the Adjudicator. Our Choirmistress, Miss Thorne, expressed her pride and pleasure at these results, which were well deserved as the choirs had worked hard to achieve this success. Holistic Education to be proud of. 2 MUSIC CONCERTS On Wednesday, 26 May 2010 all our music learners participated in a music concert, divided into two sections. The first featured beginner-level learners, giving them the opportunity to share their newly-acquired skills, and the second was performed by more advanced music pupils. The evening presented a wide variety of items including violin trios, string orchestra, piano duets, jazz piano items, recorder and guitar groups and Grade Seven song items. The Grade Seven Mini-Musical ended a most pleasant evening on a high note! VARIETY SHOW FRIDAY, 30 JULY 2010 See attached information letter. MEDICATION If it is likely that your child may need a little help during the day from medications such as cough lozenges, pain control for stomach pains, headaches, muscle aches or other injuries, PLEASE SEND THE NECESSARY PREPARATIONS WITH DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT THE DOSAGE, to school for the teacher’s attention. The Office is frequently asked to provide medications for a multitude of ailments, but we are not permitted to dispense any medication other than basic first aid such as disinfecting and dressing of minor injuries. For children who habitually suffer from nausea it is a good idea for them to have a supply of peppermints or ginger to assist them when necessary. NAME BADGES Parents are reminded that each child is to be in possession of a name badge which should be worn neatly and correctly at all times. The badges are available at a cost of R25,00 each from Mrs Bettie Shaban in the Office. SALE OF LOST PROPERTY On Monday, 07 June 2010 there will be a sale of all unclaimed lost property, marked and unmarked. This will take place at 07.30 on the verandah outside the Hall and all items will be priced at R5.00. PLEASE MAKE A DETERMINED EFFORT DURING THESE LONG HOLIDAYS TO EXAMINE ALL YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL UNIFORM ITEMS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ADEQUATELY MARKED. Once unmarked clothing is lost, there is no way of deciding which item belongs to whom – when retrieving items from Lost Property the children are expected to prove ownership of the garment claimed. LAST DAY OF EXTRAMURALS Today, Friday, 04 June 2010, is the last day of extramural activities. PARENT EDUCATOR MEETINGS ON TUESDAY, 08 JUNE 2010 Reports have been sent home today, accompanied by the letter informing parents of the Parent Educator Meetings which will be held on Tuesday, 08 June. Kindly complete this and return to school by Monday, 07 June to secure an appointment with your child’s educator. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents most sincerely for the support which the school has received this term. The secret to a successful school career and motivated, focussed learners, is to have a solid background of encouragement, assistance and support from parents at home, and we are indeed fortunate to have this hands-on commitment from our BPS families. GUIDELINES FOR PARENTAL SUPPORT : LITERACY AND NUMERACY Attached please find the brochure developed by the Western Cape Department of Education to assist parents and other caregivers with information on how to support their children in the development of good language and mathematical skills. 2014 – 2015 SERVICE DELIVERY AND BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION PLAN The Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan for the City of Cape Town 2014/2015 MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR We have undertaken an ambitious programme of governance in the city. That programme has been to turn the five pillars into a development programme until 2016. Those pillars are: the opportunity city; the safe city; the caring city; the inclusive city; and the well-run city. I think we have achieved a great deal. The IDP maps out our goals, plans and ambitions for the remainder of this term, which is already well under way. I believe that we have achieved something quite unique in local government in South Africa and what national legislation actually intended: the complete alignment of democratic will into a programme of government. But having put in place this great plan, we need to know that it is working. We need to see the outcomes that we are delivering to the people, for their own benefit and for our own progress reports. These outcomes must be assessed by a monitoring and evaluation framework that can help flag our priority areas and provide baselines and targets against which we measure our performance. That means having a scorecard that we can monitor, a scorecard that becomes the living document of delivery. We do operate with certain realities. The Auditor- General requires strict monitoring of things that are measurable in order to determine compliance and sound government. We support those principles but in as much as we satisfy the Auditor General, we must satisfy our own purposes too.

Cataloguing practices from creation to use: A study of Cape Town Metropolitan Public Libraries in Western Cape Province, South Africa by Madireng Jane Monyela Student number: 215081797 Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Information Studies) in the School of Social Sciences, College of Humanities, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa Supervisor: Prof. Stephen Mutula ---------------------------------------------- June, 2019 i Abstract Cataloguing is the process of creating metadata representing information sources such as books, sound recordings, digital video disks (DVDs), journals and other materials found in a library or group of libraries. This process requires the use of standardised cataloguing tools to achieve the bibliographic description, authority control, subject analysis and assignment of classification notation to generate a library catalogue. The well-generated library catalogue serves as an index of a collection of information sources found in libraries that enables the library users to discover which information sources are available and where they are in the library. Such a catalogue should provide information such as the creators’ names, titles, subject terms, standard number, publication area, physical description and notes that describe those information sources to facilitate easy information retrieval. This study sought to investigate cataloguing practices from creation to use in Cape Town Metropolitan public libraries in South Africa with the aim

  • Creative Cape Town Moms
Creative Cape Town Moms by moms for moms Indoor Activities @home Baking together: You will need to be prepared for a bit of mess, but toddlers seem to love mixing and sifting etc. It is great if you have a plastic mixing bowl and a few plastic cups that you can put the ingredients into so that your toddler can pour out each ingredient into the mixing bowl and mix with a big wooden spoon. Favourites are ginger-bread men, custard biscuits, peanut butter biscuits, cupcakes, crunchies, pancakes, cookies and muffins. Use Golden Cloud biscuit mix – fun and easy biscuit making. Creative sandwiches: Chop up colourful bits of whatever is in the fridge (like strawberries, cucumber, grated cheese, chopped ham, slices of Vienna are nice for circle shapes to make car wheels etc but you can use whatever you have). Use some food colouring and colour some margarine for fun. Use bread slices and play dough cutters to cut the slices of bread into fun shapes and decorate them by spreading blue margarine onto the bread and place the bits and bobs that I’d cut up onto the shapes. Make faces, cars, little men, a house… you can do anything. Play dough – making and playing with it! Puzzles Dress-up – keep a box of things – get family members to contribute to it! TV/DVDs: I know people have varying ideas of how much TV is suitable but I my daughter has LOVED and learnt so much from watching: . Barney (there are loads!) Good ones are: Let’s go to the farm, The zoo, Land of Make believe, Teariffic manners, Night before Christmas, Round and Round we go, Moving and Grooving (a good music one).
