As Knox Heritage grows and furthers its mission in our community, we seek to find new ways to generate support and secure the future of our organization. Starting in 2008, donors can give directly to an endowment fund established for Knox Heritage at the East Tennessee Foundation. An endowment is comprised of gifts and bequests with the requirement that they be invested while the principal remains intact. A percentage of the income growth is available to the designated nonprofit. This allows for the donations to have a much greater impact over a long period of time than if they were spent all at once. East Tennessee Foundation (ETF), founded in 1986, is a public, nonprofit, community foundation created for the purpose of building charitable resources to make communities stronger and lives better through thoughtful giving. ETF serves 25 counties in East Tennessee. For more information, visit www.easttennesseefoundation.org. Those interested in donating to the Knox Heritage endowment fund can send a check made payable to East Tennessee Foundation with “Knox Heritage Endowment” noted in the memo line. Mail your check to: ETF, 625 Market Street, Suite 1400, Knoxville, TN 37902. Donors also can make gifts of stock, property, or through estate planning. Gifts to the Knox Heritage endowment are fully tax-deductible within federal and state laws. For more information about the Knox Heritage endowment fund, contact Development Director Becky Hancock at 523- 8008, or call ETF at 524-1223. 60 years 60 miles $60,000 Dan Holbrook is not your ordinary runner. Most of us think a 5K or 10K run an admirable accomplishment, and those who run 26.2-mile marathons are considered high-achievers with incredible stamina by most onlookers. Knoxville’s Dan Holbrook sets his sights a little higher (or farther, if you will). He has run 50-mile races in Maryland and Seattle, WA; 50K races in Alabama, Oak Ridge, and Chattanooga; and a 23-mile trip around the rim of the Grand Canyon. He has qualified for the ultimate endurance run, the Western States 100-mile, on June 28, 2008. To celebrate his 60th birthday on February 10th, he will run 60 miles on UT’s Tom Black Track. He invites us all to cheer him on from the bleachers, or even join him for a few laps. But Dan wants to commemorate this feat in another way: he aims to raise $60,000 for three charities. One of these beneficiaries is Knox Heritage, and we couldn’t be prouder of our friend for his generous and invigorating spirit. To help Dan reach his monetary goal, you can send a donation to Knox Heritage with “60 @ 60” written in the memo line. Your contribution is fully tax-deductible, and Dan will get a list of names and the total amount contributed to Knox Heritage in honor of this accomplishment. Learn more about Dan’s running odyssey at his website www.60at60.net. Thank you, Dan, for your example of healthy living, impressive dedication, Dan Holbrook running for charities. and remarkable philanthropy! 3 2007 PRESERVATION PARTNERS FRAGILE FIFTEEN Restore America Sponsors Landmark Here is the latest news about some of our most endangered Charlie & Moll Anderson properties and places in Knoxville and Knox County.
