NB: Any words in [italics] are advisory and not part of the formal rules.

General Rules

1. Membership cards are not transferable under any circumstances.

The system will not permit any more than the permitted maximum to book and anyone fishing without a valid booking will be subject to disciplinary action. The Kinmel Estate beats are shared with Wirral Game members and if a pool is occupied you should inform the occupant that you wish to fish and will return in one hour. The rod must then vacate the pool in your favour for a least one hour. If the pool is large enough two anglers may share it by mutual agreement - following each other down and keeping moving. Courtesy and common sense must be applied on the Kinmel beats. In the event of any disagreement or incident, members must withdraw immediately without confrontation and report the incident to the Club at the first opportunity. 4. All persons fishing must be in possession of a valid Membership card, day ticket or agreed identification for another Club and an appropriate current Rod Licence.

WATER SPECIFIC INFORMATION OR RULES WILL BE POSTED ON THE CLUB WEBSITE AND/OR AT THE FISHERY/BEAT.

Fishing Byelaws

The NRW byelaws apply to all the Club beats and may change from season to season and should be checked by members prior to fishing. The closed seasons for all fish species are specified and there are restrictions or bans on the use of certain methods and baits. There are sometimes also season extensions that have their own rules and regulations. Unless otherwise specified in the Club rules the NRW byelaws control fishing times and methods and in the event of any conflict between Club rules and NRW byelaws, the NRW byelaws prevail. It is every member’s responsibility to familiarise themselves with the NRW byelaws.

Reporting Poaching Incidents

Please report all incidents as it helps to build the Police and NRW database of “hotspots” so that they can target patrols. If you report any incident to the police please obtain an incident number and keep it safe – it may be needed at a later date. The best number to call to report an incident is the new “non emergency” number 101, however if lives or property are threatened then call 999. If you have access to the Internet please also report the incident on www.cpwf.co.uk

River Maintenance

Members are requested to notify the relevant beat manager of any “maintenance issues” that they feel need addressing on any beats.

The club is keen to keep all waters well maintained and requests that any member willing to help in maintenance work contact the general secretary by email so that their name and contact details can be added to the Maintenance Volunteer email list. General Secretary's email address is [email protected]

River Elwy

The River Elwy (Afon Elwy) is the main tributary of the River Clwyd

The river starts at the village of , where the three rivers, the Afon Cledwwen, the Afon Collen and the Afon Gallen meet to form the Elwy

The Vale of Clwyd Angling Club has seven beats on the Elwy and one on the Cledwen, the majority being double bank.

The major part of the river is regarded as a rocky spate river which has a good head of wild brown trout and has an annual visit by the sea trout and salmon. Sea trout are far more numerous than the salmon, who's appearance is so dependent on the water level.

Fish can be expected from early June on the lower beats such as Roe Park and Gypsy Lane. The best pool on Kinmel Estate Beat 1 is the Black Pool, this is in the 2nd field up from the road and it has yielded a number of double figure sea trout over the years. This is a good pool for night fly fishing, start under the trees right at the head of the pool. On Kinmel Estate Beat 2 the best pools on the beat are the Footbridge Pool (on good water) and the Landslip Pool and another spot worth trying is Bob’s Pool just below the natural weir about 50 metres upstream of the Landslip Pool. Kinmel Estate Beat 3 is fishable throughout its length and is good fly water for night fishing. The Bridge Pool stops fish as they cannot easily leave the pool until there is a good height of water. The Sheepdip Pool by the cattle bridge is also good in higher water whilst the Rock Pool usually holds fish in low water conditions. Fish tend to lie under the banks throughout the beat other than in the Bridge Pool where they lie in the deep area in the middle of the pool and under the trees on the far side. NB: There has occasionally been a dangerous bull in the fields and care should be taken if cattle are in the field. If the bull is present it is recommended that cars be parked on the road without blocking the gate. Also the river is very deep in the Bridge Pool. At Nant there is a good head of wild brown trout and is good for sea trout later in the season if the conditions are right. This beat contains some very interesting corner pools.

Mobile Phone reception is very poor in much of this area.
