The simple answer is, it’s the best place to have the meet. The Gettysburg venue checked all the boxes. The Wyndham and Nick Prevas brought his daughter and son-in-law along with three of his grandchildren, from L to R: Marriott/Courtyard Hotels had enough Olivia 8, Maddie 13, and Naomi 4, who are all Chesapeake Region Junior Members. rooms to accommodate all the visitors, the huge campus of both hotels had enough parking for over 250 trucks and trailers, with room left over for over 500 plus show cars and spectator parking. Several members of the AACA Chesa- peake Region are also members of the Early Ford V8 Club and successfully hosted the 2014 and 2016 Eastern National Meets at the Wyndham. There are few if any locations in the Baltimore area that can accommodate the number of show cars and trailers anticipated. Onsite restaurants and a theater add to the venue. The President’s Message From Paula Ruby Hello Chesapeake Members!

The dust has settled and the troops have returned home and WE HAVE WON THE BATTLE. The 2018 AACA Eastern Spring Meet in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is now history. We could not have asked for a better week, even the weather was on our side.

Saying the words 'Thank you.' just doesn’t seem like enough for all of the hard work that has been put into making the 2018 Eastern Spring Meet a success. All of the aspects of putting something like this together was sometimes mind bog- gling. The team captains had their assignments and found their workers and got the job done. It is always so difficult to name everyone who had any part in putting this task together. I am always afraid that I will miss someone. On the other hand I do need to single out a few people. First and foremost is Norm Heathcote. Without Norm’s unending time and support I don’t know where I would have been. Norm was aided by Al Zimmermann in preparing the items that were needed for registration. Jack Treadwell handled our financial records and the tro- phies. Many thanks go out to Gary Wilmer and his many workers for getting the field ready for the show. This was a vital part of being ready on show day. Kenny Stevenson and Ken Schaffer and their team made parking trailers seem like a job that was no big deal. My tour guides Gary Ruby, Tom and Judy Dawson, Willis Terrett, Phil and Shelly Hack and Jack Anderson made our activities go perfectly. Vicky Wilmer and Nancy Mattheu and their team of ladies managed the social events and created all of the lovely personal touches, including centerpieces and favors. Many hours had gone into creating the centerpieces and favors beforehand with the help of Judy Dawson and Wanda Garland. Anne Marie and Don Ramsburg and their team of volunteers including Shelly Hack and others, led the charge in the 'Your Choice' Raffle Room: a beautiful display of the many items that had been donated by Chesapeake members and others. Nancy Schaffer and her team of ladies including Cathy Schaffer, Cindy George and Sally Stevenson and others sold the purse raffle tickets and silent auction items. Nancy brought with her some beautiful items to make the table look terrific. All in all everyone that helped in anyway made this event the great success that it was.

During the week people would come up to me and say what a great job I had done. I was quick to let them know that it was not an 'I' event, but was a 'WE' event. Without everyone’s help we could have not achieved the goal. As Chesa- peake Region members, we can all be proud of our efforts and the very successful national AACA event that we hosted. If you as a member did not participate in any fashion, you missed a great National AACA Meet.

There are still a lot of events to look forward to on our club calendar. Don’t forget, we still have a big, regular car show to put on September 8th in Manchester, MD. Again, EVERYONE’S HELP is needed to get the job done. So if you were not able to help with the AACA Meet this will be your opportunity to come out and lend your support. The reservation forms are out for the annual picnic on September 30th at Patapsco State Park. Don’t wait to get your reservation in. If you are planning to attend, send it in today. We are looking for someone to step up and be the Officer of the Day for the Museum of Industry car show on August 26th from 10-2. It is not a hard job, let me know if you can handle the position.

In closing, I again wish to send my heartfelt THANK YOU for all of your hard work, to anyone involved in any aspect of our very successful 2018 AACA Eastern Spring Meet. Fondly, Paula THE CHESAPEAKE BULLETIN PAGE 5 AUGUST 2018 NOTICE: Advertisements by members are free, subject to available space, if in the interest of the club and its members, i.e., antique (AACA defined) vehicles, parts, literature, memorabilia and automotive tools and equipment. A letter to the Vice-President of Judging will get you the information you desire. The letter should be mailed to the current Vice-President of Judging at the address provided in the Antique Automobile magazine or the club website and should include the following: 1. Your name and address 2. The year, make and model of your show vehicle 3. The judging class for your vehicle 4. The meet you attended 5. A self-addressed stamped envelope for the re- turn of your results. L to R: Past President Jim Turner, current Vice-President: Kathy Baer. It is the policy of the AACA to provide a sum- mary of the deductions received and not an exact score. As a result, you will receive a highlighted judging sheet disclosing the areas in which deductions were made. You can use this information to inspect your vehicle and possibly improve your vehicle for the next meet or next level of competition. It’s often helpful to have another judge or a member of your region review the vehicle with you. The AACA standard for judging is to present your car as it was de- livered to the original owner from the dealer. Items that are not period correct receive deductions, as well as items that no longer appear new. While the AACA promotes competition, remember that this is a hobby.
