We are proud to bring you another product at the cutting edge of technology. The PVR Remote Control is essentially a mini hand-held PC and offers significantly more functionality than a normal remote control. It not only controls the decoder, it also offers : o Basic control of the television and home entertainment systems in your home o Quick access to favourite channels o Macros (it can record a string of commands on a single button) o Volume redirect (change the volume of the hi-fi or TV instead of the decoder) Enjoy! 2. Taking Care of the Remote Control 2.1 Cleaning Clean the remote control using a damp cloth. Please do NOT use cleaning liquids, as the remote control has a special coating to prevent the printing from fading or rubbing off and certain cleaning liquids may dissolve this coating. 2.2 Batteries The PVR Remote Control has been optimised for heavy duty or alkaline batteries and comes with 2 new “AA/LR6” heavy duty batteries. Rechargeable batteries may also be used, however for optimal performance, we do not recommend that you use normal batteries. The i-Plate on the PVR has an indicator that will be displayed when the batteries in the remote control are running low. (The Battery Low indicator will appear on the right hand side of the i-Plate.) Once this icon appears, we recommend that you replace the batteries as soon as possible. Note X The Battery Low indicator will not disappear immediately after you replace the batteries, as the decoder requires a few button presses from the remote control to confirm that the batteries have been replaced. What’s New? 4.1 The SHIFT button Quick Summary To access secondary functionality of the keys at the top of the remote control, press SHIFT followed by the required button. The four buttons at the top of the remote control each have a secondary function. Only TV, ALT, TV GUIDE and LANGUAGE buttons are active during normal use. To access the secondary functionality, press SHIFT followed by the required button. After pressing SHIFT, it will flash / blink, confirming the mode of the remote control (ie. the SHIFT function, also known as “shifted functionality” has been activated). It is not necessary to hold both buttons down at the same time. The SHIFT function is then automatically cancelled and further button presses will not be affected. If not used, the SHIFT function will cancel itself after 20 seconds. The SHIFT function can also be cancelled by pressing SHIFT again. o To go to the Audio Bouquet, press SHIFT followed by the TV button. o To go to the About Us section of the DStv Guide, press SHIFT followed by the TV GUIDE button. o To display the Subtitles / Teletext options, press SHIFT followed by the ALT button (only available on selected channels). o To go to the Parental Control menu, press SHIFT followed by the LANGUAGE button. The dial is used for different TV environments and can be customised for use with the TV and other audio visual equipment in your home. The position of the dial can be seen through the mode window. In the example below, the remote control is in mode 2B. Whenever a button is pressed, the mode window will blink confirming that the command was sent in that mode. Tip L Just check the colours, you don’t need to read the setting. 4.2.1 What is a Mode? The different sections
