If you are unhappy with the high school that has been allocated to your child, please read this leaflet for information on what to do next. Waiting lists If your child has not been allocated a place at one of the schools listed below, his or her name will be placed on the waiting list for the schools you have specified as a higher preference. Waiting list process Parents/carers must be aware that: There is no guarantee that it will be possible to offer places to pupils on waiting lists in the future. Places at oversubscribed schools have been allocated up to their admission limit. Opportunities for those on the waiting lists will only occur if pupils already allocated a place decide not to take up the place offered. Waiting lists are organised in the order of priority of the relevant school’s admission criteria. Waiting lists are not based on the date the applications were added to the lists. The position of your child’s name on a waiting list may change as pupils are added to, or deleted from, the lists. You must write to the Admissions Team to remove your child’s name from the waiting list(s) for any higher ranked school if your child is content with the school offered. This is because waiting lists are often activated between March and August. If your child is offered a place via the waiting list process, the original place offered will be immediately reallocated to another pupil. Your child’s name will then be removed from the waiting list of any schools you have specified as a lower preference. If your child has a brother or sister who is on the waiting list for the school offered, you must contact the Admissions Team to ensure the brother or sister’s details are re-ranked on the waiting list. Changes of preference and late applications Where parents submit a late application changing their preference(s), and are successful in gaining a place at one of their preferred schools, the original place offered to their child will be immediately reallocated to another pupil. Below are the closing dates and offer dates for the late rounds, where changes of preferences and late applications will be processed. For late applications received up to 26 March 2021, decision letters will be posted to parents on 14 May 2021. For late applications received up to 30 April 2021, decision letters will be posted to parents on 28 June 2021. Applications received after 30 April 2021 will be processed in due course and the Admissions team will aim to advise parents in writing of the outcome before September 2021. Appeal Process In accordance with the School Standards and Framework Act (1998), you have the right of appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place at your preferred schools. Parents can appeal online by going to www.luton.gov.uk/admissions and clicking on Appeals, policies and arrangements and School admissions appeal form. Alternatively, you can obtain an appeal form by telephoning 01582 54 80 19 or requests for appeal forms and guidance on appeals can be made by emailing [email protected]. The appeal forms should be returned to the Appeals Team within 20 school days of being notified that a place has been refused for your child. After your appeal has been received you will be sent an acknowledgement letter. Ten school days before the appeal you will be notified by letter of the time, date and place for the appeal hearing. Help and support The Access to Education Team are offering ZOOM sessions to all parent/carer(s) where they have been unsuccessful in securing a place at any of their preferred schools. Invitations will be sent individually to parents/ carers informing of the dates and times of these sessions (Please note if you have provided an email address when submitting your child’s application the invitations will be sent via email). Appeals for The Chalk Hills Academy and The Stockwood Park Academy If you are appealing for a place at The Chalk Hills Academy and/or The Stockwood Park Academy, you must contact The Shared Learning Trust Central Admissions directly. Please note, the academies may have a closing date for receipt of completed appeal forms. The visit was the first short inspection carried out since your predecessor school was judged to be good in September 2014. This school continues to be good. The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. Following the last inspection, the academy suffered a decline in the effectiveness of leadership and the quality of education it provided. You took up the post of principal in September 2016. Together with your leadership team, governors and the trust you have established high expectations for behaviour, teaching and achievement. Leaders have made sure that strategies are in place which have led to improvements in the quality of teaching, learning, assessment and the curriculum. The consequence of this improvement is that pupils of all ages are making much better progress than last year. For example, disadvantaged pupils have made more rapid progress so that the gap between their outcomes and those of others is negligible.

    Formatted APPENDIX A - REPORT ON CORE AREAS OF WORK Carriageway Resurfacing Programme 1. Luton‟s highway network is an essential communication link that serves almost everyone everyday of the week and for a wide variety of reasons from simply visiting friends and relatives to vital business deliveries. Roads are an extremely valuable asset and in Luton their Gross Replacement Value is currently £470.25m. 2. In 2011/12 we delivered 33 resurfacing schemes and spent c. £1,500,000 of capital and revenue funding. However, with another severe winter in 2010/11 many roads had deteriorated further with the long period of freeze/thaw leading to the accelerated break- up of carriageway surfaces, with extensive cracking, crazing and potholes. 3. In addition in March 2011 the Department for Transport allocated £248,006 of Winter Pothole Funding to LBC following severe winter weather. This was used for large area road patching with over 28 roads treated. 4. Weather predictions for future years indicate an increasing trend for more exceptional weather conditions resulting in further pressure on already reducing maintenance budgets. Highway maintenance is increasingly a matter of managing the deterioration of assets. 5. The classified road (A, B & C roads) network is assessed annually using nationally developed criteria and the unclassified network is assessed every two years. Figures supplied to government show that we are currently only spending half of what would be required to maintain Luton‟s roads in their current condition. 361 resurfacing schemes have been identified following carriageway condition surveys of the road network. 6. Based upon results of the assessments, and referrals from area Highway Inspectors, Highway Services has developed a programme of work for carriageways which need immediate and significant improvement.

    21st January 2021 Dear Parent/Carer, College Applications for Post 16 Study – Deadline 12th February 2021 We understand that it has been a confusing time for our Yr11 students and their families, with much conflicting information in the media so we are writing to you with some further guidance around applications for colleges. Colleges and other post 16 learning providers have all extended their deadlines for applications this academic year following the continued disruption to education caused the pandemic. Year 11 students should make their applications now to every college / 6th Form that they are interested in attending. We have attached an overview of the local providers and ways to make those applications. Some colleges ask you to give your applications to your school. In those cases, please email your forms to Mrs Chandler [email protected]. Luton Sixth Form Centre require a paper application, which is included along with this letter. These should be returned to Mrs Chandler. Predicted Grades This year teachers gave a band (grade 2-3 or 6-7 for example) in your last report to indicate the grades we predicted could be achieved in summer 2021. Please use the top grade of the band on your applications to college. If you have any queries about your autumn report to email: [email protected] Careers Guidance A series of careers workshops will be available from 26th January – run on a Tuesday and Thursday 3.30-5pm to support students with understanding how to apply for college and sixth form courses. The schools identified for expansion are: • Ashcroft High School • Cardinal Newman Catholic School • Lealands High School • Stopsley High School • Challney High School for Boys • Denbigh High School • Icknield High School • Putteridge High School • Woodlands Secondary School (Special) Methodology o A formal consultation period ran from 9 November to 11 December 2009 during which a series of public consultation meetings were held to provide more information. o The Council was seeking the views of parents, staff, governing bodies and residents on the expansion proposals. o A copy of the Secondary School Expansion Proposal Document and questionnaire were available from the named schools and the Council’s website. Results o In total 46 questionnaires were returned, 26 online surveys, 12 paper surveys, and 8 letters and emails. o Comments were made regarding all of the 9 expanding schools but the majority of responses related to Icknield High School (41%) and Challney High School for Boys (33%). o The majority of respondents object to the Secondary School Expansion proposals. However, the objections expressed only related to 3 schools, Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Challney High School for Boys and Icknield High School. The majority of objections were received by local residents (93%). o The majority of responses came from local residents (76%). Just under a third of respondents (29%) were parents or parents of prospective pupils at one or more of the expanding schools. o The main concerns expressed by the respondents were about the traffic congestion and the illegal and obstructive parking.
