Hennessy Sports Reach Agreement to Promote Daws FARRAG VOWS TO TEACH GUERFI BOXING LESSON Liverpool’s European Bantamweight Champion Ryan Farrag has vowed to teach France’s Karim Guerfi a boxing lesson when the rivals battle it out on the mouth-watering June 4 Echo Arena show, live and exclusive on BoxNation. 27 year-old Farrag, 15-1-0 4 KO’s, beat Belgium’s two-weight world title challenger Stephane Jamoye in his own back yard to claim the vacant EBU European Bantamweight title last October. Many labelled Ryan as the massive underdog going into the fight but the Scouser upset the bookmakers and showed his class to defeat Jamoye by TKO in the ninth round. There is no love lost between Farrag and his European challenger Guerfi. Frenchman Guerfi, 23-3-0 6 KO’s, is determined to get his hands back on the EBU European title he lost to Zhanat Zhakiyanov back in 2014 and has promised to KO Farrag and reclaim his belt. Speaking to IFL TV Farrag said: “Karim messaged me on Instagram two weeks before my last fight. I think he was trying to get in my head, I’m not sure what he was playing at! He asked if I was going to defend or vacate my European title. I wasn’t happy with him messaging me so close to my fight so I told him I’d teach him a boxing lesson!” “He replied saying he’d knock me out! There’s a little bit of back and forth but it’s all banter to me. None of that means anything to me, what matters to me is what happens in the ring and I believe I’ve got the tools to take Karim out and move on,” Farrag added. “I’ve got ambitions to become a world champion and little things like that aren’t going to get to me. I’ve matured a lot as a fighter over the past couple of years and I know where I want to be and what I’ve got to do to get there.” European conqueror Farrag returned to home soil in March where he disposed of Bulgaria’s Stefan Slavchev with a crippling second round body shot. Now the Merseyside man is looking forward to fighting on another talent-stacked Liverpool show. He said: “It means everything to be boxing back at home in Liverpool in front of my own fans. This is the stuff that you dream of when you start out in boxing; defending the European title on a show stacked with Scousers. It doesn’t get much better than that.” A mouth-watering night of action is headlined by Liam Smith’s world title defence against Predrag Radosevic. Ellesmere Port star Paul Butler defend his WBO International Super-Flyweight belt against Petchbarngborn Kokietgym, should he win Butler will be guaranteed mandatory position with the WBO. South African super-puncher Zolani Tete makes his eagerly anticipated return to Liverpool to defend his IBF International Bantamweight title. Jazza Dickens takes on Spain’s Abigail Medina for the Vacant EBU European Super- Bantamweight Championship. A top undercard sees Tom Stalker, Liam Williams, Steven Lewis, Josh Leather and Declan Geraghty all in action. Abstract This piece, first delivered as a keynote address, examines the role of honour and shame in understanding the many stories of women's involvement in sport in Ireland from the eighteenth century onwards, and especially in the modern era. While women's sporting involvement was regarded as shameful, especially in those sports imbued with traditional associated masculine norms, the prospect for women's sports is different today than in the past. Yet the struggle for honour is ongoing, seen in topical debates concerning gender quotas and the recommendations made by the Citizens Assembly on gender equality. Bringing the analysis up to date, the piece outlines hoc policy initiatives around gender equality in sport from the mid-2000s (in which the author was centrally involved) to the publication of the first formal statutory policy on women in sport, in 2019. Here it is argued that the guilt and shame of previous generations has influenced the public debate on gender quotas and it is as if, in the desire for perceived equality, the current generation of sportswomen do not wish to be associated with quotas. In this way, honour is conflated with merit. The piece concludes by suggesting that merit is honourable, personally, but equally, quotas are by no means shameful in public struggles.

Sport presents a distinctive social world in many respects: one that is marked by competitive embodied practices and an exaggeration of market forces and reward by outcomes, as well as being an integral part of globalized economies and culture. Boxing is also particular within globalized sport through its mix of traditional affiliations, practices, oppressions and resistances as well as its associations with hegemonic masculinity. Although this sport is strongly competitive and based on the success/ failure, winning/losing binaries, it has long been a site targeted by systems of governance as a space for the promotion of good citizenship and social inclusion and cohesion through wider participation in its practices. Boxing has a legacy of recruiting disadvantaged and excluded people, especially young men who might otherwise engage in illegitimate and less-acceptable forms of aggression and deviance, which accounts for the periodic resurgence of interest in boxing as a means of containing disaffected young men.

Overview of the study In March 2007, the European Parliament invited the European Commission to assist football bodies and organisations in improving the regulations governing sports agents 1. In July 2007, the European Commission indicated in its White Paper on Sport 2 that it would “ carry out an impact assessment to provide a clear overview of the activities of players’ agents in the EU and an evaluation of whether action at EU level is necessary, which will also analyse the different possible options ”. The European Commission’s terms of reference for this study confirm that the European Commission “ wants to have an analysis of the situation regarding sports agents in all the sports they deal with”. The aim of the study is therefore to examine the situation of sports agents in the European Union and to identify, analyse and describe the questions that their activities give rise to as well as the solutions that have already been provided by public and/or private actors, thus enabling the European Commission to assess – on the basis of the data collected, the problems identified and the analyses carried out – whether intervention is required and, if so, at what level and in what form. The study develops, for the first time, a European outlook on the issue of sports agents.

    TOMASZ ADAMEK Undefeated World Boxing Council Light Heavyweight Champion Born on Dec. 1, 1976, in Zywiec, Poland, now residing in Bielsko Biala, Poland Height: 6’ 1 ½” Weight: Light Heavyweight (175) Record: 30-0, 21 KOs Tomasz grew up in Gilowice, a small village of 5,000 surrounded by mountains in southern Poland. He began to box at age 12 when, without telling his mom about it, a friend took him to a boxing gym. The young Tomasz, very talented and fast, was soon in the ring with grown men. Tomasz had the same trainer in Poland, Andrzei Gimitruk, who coached heavyweight Andrew Golota to a bronze medal in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. At age 19, Tomasz became one of the three youngest boxers to win the Polish National Championship in 1995. He won the title again in 1996. In 1998, he won the bronze medal in the European Championships. As an amateur, he compiled a 108-12 record. Just prior to being named to the 2000 Polish Olympic Team, where he was a medal favorite in Sydney, Tomasz signed a professional contract. Tomasz made his pro debut on March 13, 1999, and won by first-round technical knockout. He then went on to win his next eight bouts by TKO. On March 2, 2001, in Warsaw, Poland, Adamek won the International Boxing Council intercontinental light heavyweight championship with a unanimous decision win over Rudi Lupo. The 2018 Report summarizes the results of all the samples WADA-accredited Laboratories analyzed and reported into WADA’s Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS) in 2018. This is the fourth set of global testing results since the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code (Code) came into effect. The 2018 Report – which includes this Executive Summary and sub-reports by Laboratory, Sport, Testing Authority (TA) and Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) Blood Analysis – includes in- and out-of- competition urine samples; blood and ABP blood data; and, the resulting Adverse Analytical Findings (AAFs) and Atypical Findings (ATFs). REPORT HIGHLIGHTS • A 6.9% increase in the overall number of samples analyzed: 322,050 in 2017 to 344,177 in 2018. • A slight decrease in the total percentage of AAFs: 1.43% in 2017 (4,596 AAFs from 322,050 samples) to 1.42% in 2018 (4,896 AAFs from 344,177 samples). • About 60% of WADA-accredited Laboratories saw an increase in the total number of samples recorded. • An increase in the total number and percentage of non-ABP blood samples analyzed: 8.62% in 2017 (27,759 of 322,050) to 9.11% in 2018 (31,351 of 344,177).
