Se hace investigación. Coloquialmente se puede decir que el Museo Nacional de Histo- ria Natural es algo más que “una cara bonita”. Hay hombres y mujeres que con una pasión quizás incomprensible estudian lo que puede SDUHFHUEL]DUURH[WUDxRFXULRVRHVWUDIDODULR6HHVWXGLDQFDPDURQHVLQVHFWRVFDUDFRODVDQ¿- bios, reptiles, aves, mamíferos y, ciertamente, la historia del ser humano que fue parte del pasado GHQXHVWURSDtV(VWRDSDUWHGHVHUHQWUHWHQLGRSDUDTXLHQHVLQYHVWLJDQHVHQH[WUHPRLQWHUHVDQWH Entre esas gruesas paredes se aprende del patrimonio de Chile, que no está conformado sólo por tradiciones, monumentos, libros o poemas, sino que se agrega a lo antedicho un patri- monio menos notorio, del que no se toma conciencia. Es así, tal como sucede con los paisajes que, estando en ellos, no los vemos por sernos connaturales. Sin embargo, en ese ambiente viven criaturas que van desde plantas hasta ratones… y de ellos alguien se preocupa. Son Mujeres y Hombres que trabajan en el Museo, son curadores que convierten en escritos lo que estudian, y que vierten en un medio de difusión para especialistas y público curioso e inquieto. Eso es lo que está contenido en este volumen del Boletín del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural, desde la paleontología hasta la historia de Chile, de lagartijas, de camarones, de orquí- deas, y quedamos a la espera de qué futuros descubrimiento los Hombres y Mujeres del museo tengan a bien regalarnos. Estos trabajos tienen dos formatos, uno es en línea, de gran difusión en un sitio web, y el otro el medio de copia dura en papel del volumen completo, del estilo de nuestros pasados boleti- nes, depositados en las bibliotecas con las que nuestro Museo mantiene intercambio. En esta edición presentamos más de una quincena de trabajos que incluyen descripciones de especies de invertebrados y vertebrados, además de una orquídea nueva, junto a un voluminoso trabajo arqueológico en el pleno centro de Santiago. La tarea de cumplir con estas contribuciones se hace cada vez más compleja, dado que la renovación y aumento de los especialistas es cada vez más lenta, dejando al descubierto el co- nocimiento de una diversidad biológica riquísima y de sumo in interés, dadas la peculiaridades biológicas de nuestro país que, sin ser megadiverso, es altamente endémico. 9 Boletín del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural, Chile, 64: 9-13 (2015) AMPLIACION DEL LÍMITE DE DISTRIBUCIÓN NORTE PARA LIOLAEMUS CURIS NÚÑEZ & LABRA, 1985 (REPTILIA, LIOLAEMIDAE) Diego Ramírez-Álvarez Encargado Regional de Vida Silvestre, Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero, Región de O’Higgins; [email protected] RESUMEN Liolaemus curis es una especie endémica de Chile, descubierta y registrada solamente para su localidad tipo: Termas del Flaco y Río Damas (Cordillera al interior de San Fernando, Región de O’Higgins). Posteriormente, su rango de distribución fue ampliado hasta las vegas asociadas al estero Los Humos, 14 kilómetros al norte de su localidad tipo. En este artículo se describe un nuevo registro para esta especie, lo que permite ampliar en 28 kilómetros su distribución norte desde la localidad tipo, mante- niéndose con su endemismo propio de la Región de O’Higgins. Palabras clave: Liolaemus curis, Lagarto negro, Liolaemidae, Región de O’Higgins. ABSTRACT Liolaemus curis is a Chilean endemic species, discovered and recorded only in its type location: Termas del Flaco and Damas river (inner mountain zone from San Fernando city, O’Higgins Region, Chile). Afterwards, their distributional range was extended to the mountain wetlands of Los Humos creek, 14 kilometers towards north from its type location. On this paper we describe a new record for this species, which allows to extend the distribution 28 kilometers towards north from the type location, maintaining its endemism inside the O’Higgins Region.

The main differences between the new species and the previously recorded species in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, Cymadusa compta and Cymadusa setosa respectively, are also presented. Accepted 23 August 2013 Three species of marine Amphipoda, Peramphithoe africana, Varohios serratus and Ceradocus isimangaliso, are described as new to science and an additional 13 species are recorded from South Africa for the first time. Twelve of these new records originate from collecting expeditions to Sodwana Bay in northern KwaZulu-Natal, while one is an introduced species newly recorded from Simon’s Town Harbour. In addition, we collate all additions and revisions to the regional amphipod fauna that have taken place since the last major monographs of each group and produce a comprehensive, updated faunal list for the region. A total of 483 amphipod species are currently recognized from continental South Africa and its Exclusive Economic Zone . Of these, 35 are restricted to freshwater habitats, seven are terrestrial forms, and the remainder either marine or estuarine. The fauna includes 117 members of the suborder Corophiidea, 260 of the suborder Gammaridea, 105 of the suborder Hyperiidea and a single described representative of the suborder Ingolfiellidea.

On the origin and evolution of Antarctic Peracarida (Crustacea, Malacostraca)* ANGELIKA BRANDT Zoological Institute and Zoological Museum, Martin-Luther-King-Platz 3, D-20146 Hamburg, Germany Dedicated to Jürgen Sieg, who silently died in 1996. He inspired this research with his important account of the zoogeography of the Antarctic Tanaidacea. SUMMARY: The early separation of Gondwana and the subsequent isolation of Antarctica caused a long evolutionary his- tory of its fauna. Both, long environmental stability over millions of years and habitat heterogeneity, due to an abundance of sessile suspension feeders on the continental shelf, favoured evolutionary processes of “preadapted“ taxa, like for exam- ple the Peracarida. This taxon performs brood protection and this might be one of the most important reasons why it is very successful (i.e. abundant and diverse) in most terrestrial and aquatic environments, with some species even occupying deserts. The extinction of many decapod crustaceans in the Cenozoic might have allowed the Peracarida to find and use free ecological niches. Therefore the palaeogeographic, palaeoclimatologic, and palaeo-hydrographic changes since the Palaeocene (at least since about 60 Ma ago) and the evolutionary success of some peracarid taxa (e.g. Amphipoda, Isopo- da) led to the evolution of many endemic species in the Antarctic. Based on a phylogenetic analysis of the Antarctic Tanaidacea, Sieg (1988) demonstrated that the tanaid fauna of the Antarctic is mainly represented by phylogenetically younger taxa, and data from other crustacean taxa led Sieg (1988) to conclude that the recent Antarctic crustacean fauna must be comparatively young.

A key is provided to facilitate the identification of species in the Grandidierella mahafalensis Coutière 1904 species-complex. Key words: Taxonomy, Crustacea, Amphipoda, India, new species, Grandidierella. 1 Introduction The aorid genus Grandidierella currently contains over forty described species worldwide. Of these, eight species, Grandidierella megnae (Giles, 1888); G. gilesi Chilton, 1921; G. macronyx Barnard, 1935; G. gravipes Barnard, 1935; G. lignorum Barnard, 1935; G. bonnieroides Stephensen, 1948; G. exilis Myers, 1981 and G. trispinosa Bano and Kazmi, 2010, have been recorded from the Indian Ocean region. They are detritus feeders and in some cases can be opportunistic predators. They generally occur in areas high in silt, which makes some species adaptable to fouling (Jourde et al., 2013; Lo Brutto et al., 2016). It also makes them amenable to cultivation as aquaculture fish-food. Provision of nutritionally balanced live feeds for early stages of fish plays a pivotal role in successful rearing of commercially important finfish and shellfish species.
