Storage of large synaptic connectivity (SNN topology) information in SNNs require large distributed on-chip mem- ory, which poses serious challenges for compact hardware implementation of such archi- tectures. Based on the structured neural organisation observed in human brain, a modular neural networks (MNN) design strategy partitions complex application tasks into smaller subtasks executing on distinct neural network modules, and integrates intermediate outputs in higher level functions. This paper proposes a hardware modular neural tile (MNT) archi- tecture that reduces the SNN topology memory requirement of NoC-based hardware SNNs by using a combination of fixed and configurable synaptic connections. The proposed MNT contains a 16:16 fully-connected feed-forward SNN structure and integrates in a mesh topol- ogy NoC communication infrastructure. The SNN topology memory requirement is 50% of the monolithic NoC-based hardware SNN implementation. The paper also presents a lookup table based SNN topology memory allocation technique, which further increases the memory utilisation efficiency. Overall the area requirement of the architecture is reduced by an aver- age of 66% for practical SNN application topologies. The paper presents micro-architecture details of the proposed MNT and digital neuron circuit.

They knew in you the humanity that the sea did not tear, that a thousand years did not spoil: the quality of the Gael permanent.]1 The words of Sorley MacLean have become something of a Q-Celtic clarion call in recent years. They commemorate his brother Calum, whose work on each side of the North Channel on behalf of the Irish Folklore Commission and of the School of Scottish Studies, recording the oral tradition of those whom Calum, quoting the Irish poet F. R. Higgins, described as ‘the lowly, the humble, the passionate and knowledgeable stock of the Gael’,2 is as potent a symbol as there could be of the continuing reality of a greater Gaeldom, however attenuated, into our own times.

The ancestry of these northern tribes and their kings is proclaimed in the Chronicon Scotorum as belonging to the Sil Cuinn (Race of Conn), not Ui Neill. The Ui Neill link appears as a synthetic fabrication of the dynastic Ui Neill historians of the 13 th century, who rewrote parts of the Irish annals to their advantage. The Chronicon Scotorum , it seems had been overlooked and to have retained its original nature. Conal Gulban’s kindred, the Cenél Conaill, and its branches are Picts (Irish Cruithne), and not Celtic/Gaels related to Niall of the Nine Hostages (although some consider the Picts a Celtic people).

    Your O’Farrell Family History History of the Farrell / O’Farrell Name As both (O')Farrell and (O')Ferrall, this name in Irish is ÓFearghail, from the personal name Fearghal, made up of fear, "man", and gal, "valour". The original Fearghal or Fergal from whom the family claim descent was king of Conmaicne and was killed at Clontarf in 1014. His great grandfather Angall gave his name to the territory they possessed, Annally in Co. Longford. The present name of both the county and the town derives from the family, the full name in Irish being Longphuirt Uí Fhearghaill, O'Farrell's Fortress. They ruled this area for almost seven centuries, down to the final catastrophes of the seventeenth century, after which many members of the family fought with distinction in the armies of continental Europe. Today the surname is one of the most common in Ireland, with a wide distribution throughout the country, though the largest concentration remains in the historic homeland of Longford and the surrounding areas. Throughout this document, the surname Farrell is often referred to as O’Farrell and visa versa. For example, Sandra’s Great Grandmother Julia Whelan married Michael Farrell in 1896. His father is also listed as Michael Farrell on their marriage certificate. In the 1901 census, Julia is listed as Julia Farrell with her son Patrick Farrell. However, in the 1911 census, she is listed as Julia O’Farrell with her son Patrick O’Farrell. The O’Farrell surname seems to have stuck on the maternal line since then. Conversely, on Sandra’s paternal line, the O’Farrell surname seems to have been lost and replaced with just Farrell when Sandra’s paternal grandfather dropped the O and became a Farrell.

As chapter one illustrates, through a review of the historiography of Irish kingship, the discussion of ‘power’ has, hitherto, amounted to a conversation about the ways in which the power of the greater Irish kings grew over the course of the eleventh and twelfth centuries (at the expense of the lesser kings). Engaging with the rich corpus of international literature on power, as is done in chapter one, reveals the sheer complexity and vicissitudes of ‘power’ as a concept. Many writers and thinkers on the subject have identified resistance as a means through which to view power relations, and it is along these lines that the rest of the thesis runs. Chapters three and four are concerned with the subject of resistance; with regicide and revolt, respectively. Both mine the Irish annals.
