We are extremely passionate about our school and are proud in how the school has developed over time, but we are also very excited about the direction the school could continue in the future with new leadership. Our school needs a Head Teacher who can provide us with the leadership and commitment the students deserve and who has a focus on the exam results we strive to achieve. A sense of community is paramount to St. Cuthbert Mayne, we aim to put our core values: courage, integrity, creativity and compassion into practice in the day to day running of the School. Being a comprehensive school we are proud to cater for students of all abilities, with that comes a chance to guide students towards a range of post-18 options as well as the traditional route of University. We feel one of the main aims of a Head Teacher at St. Cuthbert Mayne is to prepare each and everyone one of us for the wider world, so once we leave, we have the skills needed for life. As long serving students we believe that St. Cuthbert Mayne allows us the opportunity to work hard, but also have fun and enjoy our life here. Having a Christian ethos is also important at our school, as students we want to understand the important teachings of Christianity, such as good ethics, we feel that it is important to teach this to all students and something that as Head Teacher we strongly hope you would be able to deliver on. St Cuthbert Mayne is a joint faith Church of England and Catholic School. Both Ofsted and Section 48 inspections in 2016 rated the school as ‘good.’ We are looking for an excellent Headteacher to build and lead the school on the next stage of our journey to be an outstanding school. The Governors are very proud of the ethos of the school which is evident within the student and staff bodies. We aim to support every student to achieve their potential. St Cuthbert Mayne is a Centre of Excellence for Teaching, Learning and Leadership. We are a Google School with a fully integrated system of Google Classroom, together with Digital Leaders from the student body. We have a thriving chaplaincy team which is a vital part of our school. Michael Cronin Chair of Governors 4 Background Torbay is one of the most popular visitor destinations in the country and has a wealth of outdoor, cultural and leisure opportunities for residents and visitors. It is close to Dartmoor National Park with easy access to Plymouth, Exeter and the M5. It is also close to other areas of outstanding natural beauty, there is a thriving sailing and surfing community along with several blue flag beaches. The School St Cuthbert Mayne School is a mixed, comprehensive, Roman Catholic/Church of England Secondary School with a Sixth-Form based in Torquay, Devon. It is a voluntary aided state school operating under the Diocese of Exeter and Plymouth. St Cuthbert Mayne School is a successful school serving the Christian community over a wide area of South Devon. We are a Joint Catholic and Church of England School which welcomes students from all or no faith background. The teaching accommodation is of mixed age but well-resourced and maintained. A new classroom block was opened in November 2012, along with landscaping and paving of circulation areas. The latest Ofsted Inspection in November 2016 graded the school to be good, in every category. The statutory inspection of Anglican/Catholic Schools also conducted in November, graded the school to be good in all areas. Part of this is the school’s Educational Vision to provide an inspirational Christian education which engages challenges and nurtures our students so that they may live life to the full, now and in the future. Therefore the school has invested in staff training to become a Centre of Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Leadership. The majority of Senior Leaders have completed either the NPQH or NPQSL and a high quality internal middle leadership course has been developed for middle leaders and those preparing for leadership. Recently we have started to support other schools in developing their leadership capacity. Our outreach programmes include Primary School Assemblies, leading music in local churches and visiting and singing in local care homes. Rev’d Nathan Kiyaga, Chaplain 6th Form St Cuthbert Mayne Sixth Form has consistently achieved very competitive outcomes over a number of years. This year learners achieved 10% better progression into Employment or Education than the local and national average. Our Sixth Form offers a range of A level and BTEC courses, Sixth Form has a focus on nurturing talent and character. The tutors offer academic challenge and pastoral support. There are many leadership opportunities within Sixth Form including Head Boy and Girl and the Prefect Executive for the school. Mr Anthony Boughton, Head of 6th Form Digital Learning At St Cuthbert Mayne we take an innovative approach to using digital technology in education. Over the past 4 years we have launched Google Apps for Education schoolwide, enabling a collaborative approach to learning and teaching for both students and staff. This was supported by St Cuthbert Mayne being the first school in Torquay to issue all students, from Year 10 to Year 13, with their own Chromebooks. This is spearheaded by a superb team of lead practitioners, one in each of English, Mathematics, Science and MFL. We provide a supportive, collaborative environment for teachers which shares practice regularly and this is facilitated by the fact we are a Google Apps for Education establishment.
