Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Since infancy, he s suered an impaired leg from Polio, but Mac Wiseman had too much backbone not to succeed. He worked twice as hard as other Appalachian farm-boys, then went on to get an education and carve out a career in show business: First as a broadcaster, then as musician for pioneers Buddy Starcher, Molly O Day, Flatt Scruggs and Bill Monroe, and finally as a solo singer, hitting his stride with ballads about Davy Crockett and Jimmy Brown The Newsboy. Behind the scenes, Mac s produced acts like Reno Smiley, Cowboy Copas and Bonnie Guitar; became a founding father of the Country Music Association; brought the WWVA-Wheeling Jamboree back from the brink of bankruptcy; and originated the successful Renfro Valley Bluegrass Festival. As an artist, he re-emerged a college circuit favorite; was the first bluegrass star touring Europe; recorded with Big Band leader Woody Herman; helped originate 1990s Groovegrass Boyz with Doc Watson, Del McCoury Bootsy Collins; cut new Millennium discs with John Prine, Charlie Daniels, Merle Haggard, and did the last recordings with buddy Johnny Cash. Wiseman achievements include induction into the Virginia Music Hall of Fame, Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor, Country Music Hall of Fame, and National Medal of the Arts. Mac s devotion to duty, however, cost him dearly on the home-front, though a strong faith helped him be the survivor he is today in his ninetieth year!. GENE WATSON FAN CLUB NEWSLETTER 2017 R.O.P.E. ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR—GENE WATSON! OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER 2017 - VOLUME 53 Dear Friends – Is it just me or has this year flown by! So many great things happened this year from a #1 for my Gospel single “Help Me” to getting the chance to appear on Country’s Family Reunion with my friend, Joe Nichols. We wrapped up the Gene & Moe Show and by the way, those shows will air again sometime on RFD-TV. I’ll let you know when we find out the air dates for those. We’re delighted to be closing out this year with the release of my second Gospel album “My Gospel Roots” on December 8th! As many of you already know, the pre-release for this CD has been going on at my website and those of you that pre-ordered should start receiving your autographed copy soon. Thanks to all of you that gave us nice comments on the video we made for the single “Old Roman Soldier”. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check that out at www.YouTube.com/GeneWatsonVideos. This Gospel CD has been a special one for me. I really thought long and hard on which songs I wanted to record, keeping in mind many of the songs that my family and I sang in our little church with my parents leading us in song at the pulpit. On the back of the CD cover, you’ll see a photo of my parents and there’s also a photo of the actual Jesus Name Mission church with 3 pastors from over 30 years there.
