We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection.

Fr Cantalamessa gives first Advent reflection to Pope and Roman Curia The Preacher of the Papal Household, Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, gives his first Advent reflection at the Redemptoris Mater Chapel in the Apostolic Palace. Below is the full text of his sermon. P. Raniero Cantalamessa ofmcap BLESSED IS SHE WHO BELIEVED!” Mary in the Annunciation First Advent Sermon 2019 Every year the liturgy leads us to Christmas with three guides: Isaiah, John the Baptist and Mary, the prophet, the precursor, the mother. The first announced the Messiah from afar, the second showed him present in the world, the third bore him in her womb. This Advent I have thought to entrust ourselves entirely to the Mother of Jesus. No one, better than she can prepare us to celebrate the birth of our Redeemer. She didn’t celebrate Advent, she lived it in her flesh. Like every mother bearing a child she knows what it means be waiting for somebody and can help us in approaching Christmas with an expectant faith. We shall contemplate the Mother of God in the three moments in which Scripture presents her at the center of the events: the Annunciation, the Visitation and Christmas. 1. “Behold, / am the handmaid of the Lord” We start with the Annunciation. When Mary went to visit Elizabeth she welcomed Mary with great joy and praised her for her faith saying, “Blessed is she who believed there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken her from the Lord” (Lk 1:45). The wonderful thing that took place in Nazareth after the angel’s greeting was that Mary “believed,” and thus she became the “mother of the Lord.” There is no doubt that the word “believed” refers to Mary’s answer to the angel: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word (Lk 1:38).

The Holy See ECUMENICAL CELEBRATION PRESIDED OVER BY HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI AND CATHOLICOS OF CILICIA FOR ARMENIANS, HIS HOLINESS ARAM I GREETING BY HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI TO CATHOLICOS ARAM I, CATHOLICOS OF THE ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF CILICIA Redemptoris Mater Chapel, Apostolic Palace Monday, 24 November 2008 Your Holiness, With heartfelt affection in the Lord I greet you and the distinguished members of your delegation on the occasion of your visit to the Church of Rome. Our meeting today stands in continuity with the visit which you made to my beloved predecessor Pope John Paul II in January 1997, and with the many other contacts and mutual visits which, by God’s grace, have led in recent years to closer relations between the Catholic Church and the Armenian Apostolic Church. In this year of Saint Paul, you will visit the tomb of the Apostle of the Nations and pray with the monastic community at the basilica erected to his memory. In that prayer, you will be united to the great host of Armenian saints and martyrs, teachers and theologians, whose legacy of learning, holiness and missionary achievements are part of the patrimony of the whole Church. We think of Saint Nerses Shnorkhali and Saint Nerses of Lambon who, as Bishop of Tarsus, was known as “the second Paul of Tarsus”. That testimony culminated in the twentieth century, which proved a time of unspeakable suffering for your people. The faith and devotion of the Armenian people have been constantly sustained by the memory of the many martyrs who have borne witness to the Gospel down the centuries.

The Holy See CONCLUSION OF THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES OF THE ROMAN CURIA ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER BENEDICT XVI "Redemptoris Mater" Chapel Saturday, 19 March 2011 Photo Gallery Dear Brothers, Dear Fr Léthel, At the end of this journey of reflection, meditation and prayer in the company of the holy friends of Pope John Paul II, I would like to say to with all my heart: thank you, Fr Léthel, for your firm guidance and for the spiritual riches you have given us. You have shown the saints to us as “stars” in the firmament of history and, with your enthusiasm and joy, you have inserted us in the circle of these saints and have shown us that it is precisely the “little” saints who are “great” saints. You have shown us that the scientia fidei and the scientia amoris go hand in hand and complete one another, that great reason and great love go hand in hand, indeed that great love sees more than reason alone. Providence wanted these Exercises to conclude with the Feast of St Joseph, my personal Patron and the Patron of Holy Church: a humble saint, a humble worker who was made worthy to be the Custodian of the Redeemer. St Matthew describes St Joseph with one word: he was a “just” man, “dikaios”, from “dike”, and in the vision of the Old Testament, as we find it, for example, in Psalm 1; the man who is immersed in the word of God, who lives in the word of God and does not experience the Law as a “yoke” but rather as a “joy”, who dwells in — we might say — the Law as a “Gospel”.

The following is a translation of the Pope’s introductory words which he offered in Italian on live steaming, from the private library of the Apostolic Palace at noon. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today we made an appointment with all Christians throughout the world to pray to- gether the ‘Our Father’, the prayer that Jesus taught us. As trusting children, we address our Father. We do it every day, several times a day. However, at this time, we want to implore mercy for humanity, so greatly tried by the coronavirus pandemic. And we do it together, Christians of every Church and Community, of every tradition, age, language and nation. Let us pray for the sick and their families; for healthcare workers and those who assist them, for the authorities, law enforcement agencies and volunteers and for the ministers of our community. • The Society's Motherhouse in Rome
The Motherhouse of the Society of the Divine Savior Every religious community has a central house. Some call it their “Motherhouse,” others call it their “General House.” Our Motherhouse is located in Rome, just steps away from St. Peter’s Square. It serves as the home of the Superior General and his Council, and it houses the Founder’s Chapel as well as the archives of the Society. Our presence in that house dates back to our Founder, Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan. Our Society began on December 8, 1881, at 96 Piazza Farnese, the house where St. Bridget of Sweden lived in the 14th century. Within a year, Fr. Jordan needed more room for the growing number of candidates. On November 1, 1882, he began renting rooms near St. Peter’s Basilica in the Palazzo Cesi, which then had an address of Borgo Vecchio 165. In 1894, the owner of the palace, Duca Francesco di Paola Negroni Caffarelli, who used only the first floor, decided to sell the building. Jordan seized the opportunity to buy it. The acquisition of the property took place in the autumn of 1894, and the final agreement was signed on the July 20, 1895. In the 1930s, the Italian government created a major boulevard – the Via della Conciliazione – leading from the Tiber River to the open arms of St. Peter’s Square. The Motherhouse, which had been facing a narrow street little bigger than an alley, suddenly found itself with a new address, fronting on one of the most important streets in all of Rome.
