DEBRA DIGIOVANNI Voted Canada’s Best Female Comedian at the 2007 Canadian Comedy Awards with a stand up show ranked #1 of 2007 in Toronto’s NOW! Magazine, Debra DiGiovanni is one of a kind. This year Debra’s been honored with another Canadian Comedy Award nomination, as well as her nomination for best individual comedy performance at the Gemini awards. Debra can also be seen on the 5th season of NBC’s hit show Last Comic Standing where she was chosen as a top 10 finalist. In 2008, she taped her second ‘Comedy Now!’ special for CTV/Comedy network and in 2009 she hosted the Cream of Comedy award show for the Comedy Network. Debra is also a favorite on the hugely popular Much Music show ‘Video On Trial’. In 2007 she taped her first Gala at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, and has since been back to host the prestigious Home Grown Competition. She’s performed at the Halifax, Winnipeg, Sudbury, Moncton and St John’s Comedy Festivals and completed a successful west coast run with her Girls Night Out tour, ending 2008 by headlining Massey Hall for their New Years Eve gala. Debra was asked to participate in Toronto’s production of the Nutcracker, filling the celebrity role of ‘Canon Doll,’ and you can hear her regularly on the CBC radio show ‘The Debaters’ as well as the voice for Zellers radio. In 2008, Debra co-hosted the Genie awards with Sandra Oh and in the summer of 2009, Debra taped her second gala at Just for Laughs as well as her first Comedy Central show, Live at Gotham. .

February 22, 2010 (Winnipeg) – It’s nearly that time of year again, when dozens of comics from across the nation hold the city hostage with big laughs and side-splitting mirth. Running April 6-11, 2010, it’s our biggest festival yet, featuring 70 comics and 29 shows in six short nights. What makes this festival so big? Let’s start at the beginning. Tuesday, April 6th we launch the festival with a bang by hosting the Trevor Boris DVD Release/Homecoming 2010 show. When Winnipeg’s favourite farmboy-turned-Much Music-host Trevor Boris announced his intentions to return home to launch his new DVD with Warner Brothers, we decided to join forces and create a show celebrating Trevor and other fine Manitoba ex-pats Irwin Barker and Bruce Clark, as well as current Winnipeggers Al Rae and Chantel Marostica. Wednesday marks our eighth year of the fantastic Opening Night show with the Manitoba Lotteries, hosted this year by none other than the prodigal son, Trevor Boris! The show has swollen from the traditional four to six talented performers; Greg Morton, Derek Edwards, Arthur Simeon, Scott Faulconbridge and Karen O’Keefe. Next comes four nights of galas, including five recorded-for-broadcast CBC galas. We kick off on Thursday with the Edumacation Show, hosted by Gerry Dee and featuring half a dozen cerebral comics including David Hemstad and Jon Dore. Friday night we’ve got two fantastic galas.

Canadian Humour
Canadian humour Canadian humour is an integral part of the Canadian Identity. There are several traditions in Canadian humour in both English and French. While these traditions are distinct and at times very different, there are common themes that relate to Canadians' shared history and geopolitical situation in North America and the world. Various trends can be noted in Canadian comedy. One thread is the portrayal of a "typical" Canadian family in an on-going radio or television series. Examples include La famille Plouffe, with its mix of drama, humour, politics and religion and sitcoms such as King of Kensington and La Petite Vie. Another major thread tends to be political and cultural satire: television shows such as CODCO, Royal Canadian Air Farce, La Fin du monde est à 7 heures and This Hour Has 22 Minutes, monologuists such as Yvon Deschamps and Rick Mercer and writers, including Michel Tremblay, Will Ferguson and Eric Nicol draw their inspiration from Canadian and Québécois society and politics. Another trend revels in absurdity, demonstrated by television series like The Kids in the Hall and The Frantics, and musician-comedians such as The Arrogant Worms, Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie and Bowser and Blue. Satire is arguably the primary characteristic of Canadian humour, evident in each of these threads, and uniting various genres and regional cultural differences. Humber College in Toronto and the École nationale de l'humour in Montreal offer post-secondary programmes in comedy writing and performance. Montreal is also home to the bilingual (English and French) Just For Laughs festival and to the Just for Laughs museum, a bilingual, international museum of comedy.

SHORT SYNOPSIS MOON POINT is the story of Darryl Strozka (Nick McKinlay), a socially awkward and ambitionless 23‐year old who seems destined to live forever with his mother. As his cocky cousin Lars’ wedding approaches, Darryl decides that the best way to prove to his family that he is not quite as worthless as they think he is, is to track down his elementary school crush, now an obscure B‐movie actress shooting a horror film in Moon Point, and bring her to the wedding. Darryl enlists his best friend, known affectionately as Femur (Kyle Mac), and travels hundreds of miles in a wagon hooked onto the back of Femur’s electric wheelchair. On their journey, the boys meet Kristin (Paula Brancati), a sharp, sarcastic young woman who is running away from a relationship back home. Eager to join the boys on their adventure, she begins to realize that love can find you in unlikely places. But naturally, as tends to happen on such a quest, things don’t turn out quite as planned.
