During the rest of 1988 and the beginning of 1989 they continued song writing with bass-player Pete Trewavas on vocals, while the lyrics for their new compositions came from writer John Helmer, they even played a few gigs in this four-men line-up. During the writing process they were however also holding auditions for new vocalists (among which were Galahad's Stuart Nicholson and Cyan's Nigel Voyle). Eventually their choice fell on the eccentric Steve Hogarth, a fairly unknown singer / songwriter / keyboard player who had previously played in eighties' bands The Europeans and How We Live. The band had realised that their only way forward without Fish would be with a lead singer who would in no way be trying to copy the two-meters- high Scot. But of course the 5'2" Hogarth was not only chosen for his height; his musical abilities would surely add to the Marillion compositions as well. The first post-Fish album Seasons End, was musically a natural follow up to Clutching at Straws, but many fans had to get used to Hogarth's voice, which was entirely different from Fish's.

  • Interview with Marillion STEVE HOGARTH
http://www.dprp.vuurwerk.nl Steve Rothery | Ian Mosley | Pete Trewavas| Band| Competition Interview with Marillion interview by: Bart Jan van der Vorst STEVE HOGARTH In recent years the ticket price for concerts has nearly doubled in Holland, whereas the price has remained the same in countries like Belgium or Germany. During the This Strange Engine tour the tickets cost about £12, whereas for last year's tour that price was £22 - in the same venue!. I know you haven't got a lot of influence on this, but what I'm wondering is, does this hefty increase in price mean you are earning nearly twice as much for a gig, or does this money go elsewhere? Are you sure? To be honest I don't think we could come to Holland for a £12 price. Maybe it's an exchange-rate thing. (Unfortunately it isn't --BJ) All our tour costs are paid by us in pounds sterling. We do earn more money for gigs than we used to. In the past (Brave Tour is a good example) we toured for several months and everyone except the band got paid (manager, agent, crew, trucking, bussing, promoters, dry cleaners, cooks, all received thousands of pounds. Me, Steve, Mark Pete and Ian got nothing.) I used to be poorer at the end of a six-month tour because it had cost me so much to live on the road. I was also mentally and physically exhausted. In the mad old days, we could afford to subsidise touring with our record advances etc..

Cannabis Cures: American Medicine, Mexican Marijuana, and the Origins of the War on Weed, 1840-1937 Adam R. Rathge A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Department of History in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Boston College Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences Graduate School May 2017 © Copyright 2017 Adam R. Rathge CANNABIS CURES: AMERICAN MEDICINE, MEXICAN MARIJUANA, AND THE ORIGINS OF THE WAR ON WEED, 1840-1937 Adam R. Rathge Advisor: Martin A. Summers, Ph.D. This dissertation charts the medicalization and criminalization of the drug now widely known as marijuana. Almost no one in the United States used that word, however, until it was introduced from Mexico in the early twentieth century. Prior to that, Americans often called it hemp or hashish, and generally knew it as Cannabis - the scientific name given to a genus of plants by Carl Linnaeus. That transition in terminology from cannabis to marijuana serves as the crux of this project: It begins in 1840 with the formal introduction of cannabis into American medicine and ends in 1937 with the federal prohibition of marijuana.

  • Holidays in Eden (Marillion) Get Ready to ROCK!
get ready to ROCK! Holidays In Eden (Marillion) This is the feature where we revisit bands or albums that are worthy of attention but may well have been overlooked over the years…we also signpost the definitive CD versions and related albums worth investigating. If you have your own neglected band/album send us a review! With Steve Hogarth having eased his way into the band on the 1989 album 'Season's End', 1991's 'Holidays In Eden' consolidated his position and signalled Marillion's further severing of the umbilical with former frontman Fish. Produced by Christopher Neil, 'Holidays In Eden' is one of the band's most commercial offerings but still wrapped up in their signature prog-rock styling - notably spearheaded by Steve Rothery's chiming guitar figures. The band were pressured by EMI who wanted an album with at least three singles, whilst Neil was well-known for his pop craftsmanship through his work with Celine Dion and Sheena Easton. Hogarth proved himself a powerful and sensitive singer, no more so than on his older song 'Dry Land' (written with Colin Woore when he was in How We Live). He also brought fresh input into the band's songwriting process. With lyricist John Helmer on board, the band cranked out intelligent AOR which although alienating some of the older fanbase touched territory that - with the right promotion - could have won them a whole new audience. In the post-Fish Marillion canon, the album now stands slightly apart from what was to follow. After the prog-rock epic 'Brave' and its successor 'Afraid Of Sunlight' EMI dropped the band and Hogarth and co.

Both in the United States and around the world. It was called the turbulent 60s for a reason. This is a story not about politics, military tactics, or the history of American involvement in Southeast Asia. This is a narrative that talks about the American soldier who went to Vietnam. It is important to understand who they were, why they went there, and what happened to them in Vietnam. It is duly important to comprehend their returns home. Therefore, this is a blend of social and cultural history that tells a story about Vietnam, from the American soldier’s perspective.
