Office of the Vice-President for Students, Participation and Employability CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY OF A CORUÑA STUDENT ACCOMMODATION IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITY HALLS OF RESIDENCE IN A CORUÑA AND FERROL, 2021/22 The University of A Coruña (UDC) announces a call for applications for accommodation in public university halls of residence in A Coruña and Ferrol for the academic year 2021/2022. The application process will be subject to the following conditions: 1. APPLICANTS The call for applications is open to students registered for the academic year 2021/2022 on full- time undergraduate or Master’s degree courses in a UDC faculty or school in A Coruña or Ferrol who meet the requirements stipulated in Annex I. 2. ELIGIBILITY Applications will not be considered from students who do not meet the requirements outlined above or in Annex I, or from students in any of the following situations: a) Students with fees still owing to UDC for the academic year 2020/2021 by 30 June 2021. b) Elvira Bao University Residence (A Coruña): As a general rule, students whose family home is located in the city of A Coruña or in the Greater A Coruña area (including Laracha, Carballo, Betanzos, Oza-Cesuras, Miño, Curtis, Arteixo, Cambre, Culleredo, Oleiros, Bergondo, Sada, Abegondo, Carral, Cerceda and Ordes). Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the distance between the family home and the student’s faculty, availability of transport, and the student’s timetable. c) Ferrol University Residence: As a general rule, students whose family home is located in the city of Ferrol or in the Greater Ferrol area (including Miño, Cabanas, Pontedeume, Fene, Narón, Valdoviño, Neda, Ares, Mugardos and Cedeira). Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the distance between the family home and the student’s faculty, availability of transport, and the student’s timetable. d) Students with family income and assets in excess of the limits established by the royal decree establishing limits on income and assets for the awarding of Ministry of Education and Vocational Training grants (pending publication) for the academic year 2021/2022, or students with a personal disposable income in excess of €13,500. e) UDC students participating in an Erasmus, exchange or bilateral mobility agreement programme during the academic year 2021/2022. 3. NUMBER OF PLACES, FEES AND DURATION OF STAY 3.1. Total number of places, reserved places and fees a) The total number of places available in UDC public university halls of residence is as follows: - Elvira Bao Public University Residence, A Coruña: 112. 1 - Public University Residence, Ferrol: 25. The number of places available is subject to compliance with public health requirements. Should additional places become available, they will be allocated in accordance with the waiting list. b) The total number of reserved places is as follows: STUDENTS ELVIRA BAO PUBLIC PUBLIC UNIVERSITY UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE (A RESIDENCE CORUÑA) (FERROL) First-year students (first 22 5 registration) Agreements signed with UDC 2 2 International mobility students* 6 2 Students with reduced mobility 2 1 High level / High performance 3 1 athletes *International mobility students should submit their application at the UDC International Relations Office ‐ Reserved places which are not filled will be added to the total number of general places. ‐ Places reserved as part of an agreement signed with UDC are free of charge, if so stated in the agreement. ‐ Places reserved for students with reduced mobility are for students with a certified reduced mobility disability of 33% or more requiring a specially adapted room. ‐ Places reserved for high level athletes are for students who: o Have been selected to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games or meet one of the following conditions in the 12-month period prior to the date of application: . Be a high level / high performance athlete, in accordance with Royal Decree 971/2007 (13 July). Be a high level Galician athlete (DGAN), in accordance with Decree 6/2004 (8 January). Have finished in a top three position in a top division official national championship during the academic year 2019-2020. Have been selected to represent Spain in an official European or world championship, the FISU World University Games or the Mediterranean Games. Have finished in a top three position in a Spanish university championship or in international university championships during the academic year 2020/2021, representing the University of A Coruña. c) Information regarding room types and residence fees is provided in Annex II. 3.2. Duration of stay The period of residence runs from 1 September 2021 to 30 June 2022. 2 Halls of residence will close from 23 December 2021 to 7 January 2022 and from 11 to 18 April 2022, unless at least 10% of residents choose to remain. Closure periods will not result in any reduction in the price of accommodation. 4. APPLICATION PROCESS, DEADLINE AND PLACE OF SUBMISSION 4.1. Application process and place of submission a) Returning students and students registered previously on other UDC courses should apply online using the following link: https://aplicacions.sic.udc.es/SolicitudeResidencias Students should save a copy of their completed application form as proof of submission. Students should upload a signed copy of the completed application form and the support documentation required in Annex III. b) Students registering for the first time at UDC should apply using the form provided in Annex V (for A Coruña) or VI (for Ferrol). Completed forms should be printed and signed by the applicant and all assessable household members, and submitted at one of the following offices together with all of the support documentation stipulated in the call: ‐ A Coruña: Grants Office, Student Pavilion (Elviña campus); ‐ Ferrol: SAPE, Student Advice and Support Building (Esteiro campus); ‐ or in accordance with any of the alternative methods provided in Article 16 State Administration Common Administrative Procedures Act 39/2015 (1 October). Students who opt for this method of submission should send a copy of their application by email to [email protected], with the subject line: ‘University residence / Application for place in halls of residence (Residencias universitarias / prazas residencias)’. 4.2. Deadline Applications will remain open for a period of one month, from 16 June to 14:00 on 16 July. Only one application will be accepted per student per academic year. 5. PROCESSING OF APPLICATIONS Applications will be assessed on the basis of the academic and financial criteria provided in the call. Places will be awarded to the students with the highest overall scores. Upon completion of the assessment process, a provisional list of successful applicants and applicant scores, and excluded applicants and the corresponding causes of exclusion will be published on the official bulletin board on the UDC online services site (Taboleiro Electrónico Oficial). Excluded applicants will have a period of five working days to appeal the decision and/or correct any mistakes or omissions in their application. Following the end of the appeal period, final lists of successful applicants, reserve applicants and excluded applicants will be published on the official bulletin board on the UDC online services site. All decisions and notifications will be communicated through the official bulletin board on the UDC online services site. 3 6. ACCEPTANCE OF PLACES; PAYMENT AND RETURN OF DEPOSIT Students will be given five working days as from the day after publication of the final list of successful applicants to accept the place offered and pay the corresponding deposit: ‐ €150 for double rooms. ‐ €200 for single rooms. Details of payment of accommodation fees will be published together with the final list of successful applicants. Proof of payment of the deposit and proof of university registration for the academic year 2021/2022 should be sent by email to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Fianza residencia universitaria’. Receipt of proof of payment of the deposit will be taken as confirmation of acceptance of the place offered. Rooms will be allocated at the residence itself and students will be required to sign a document accepting the terms of residence. Students who fail to comply with any of these procedures within the time frame stipulated will be deemed to have declined the offer of a place, following which their place will be offered to the next student on the waiting list. Deposits will be returned to students at the end of the academic year, except in the case of damage to residence facilities or furniture, outstanding debts, or students who choose to leave the residence before the end of the academic year. 7. EXPULSION FROM HALLS Students may be expelled from UDC halls of residence on the following grounds: a) Late payment of accommodation fees (more than two months). b) Cession of place to another person. c) Suspension or termination of UDC registration. d) Change in registration if, as a result, the resident ceases to be registered as a full-time student (in accordance with the full-time requirement stipulated in Section 1). e) Failure to comply with residence health and hygiene procedures. f) The grounds for expulsion provided in the UDC Internal Regulations for Public University Residences. 8. VERIFICATION OF INFORMATION The University of A Coruña will be entitled to obtain information from the public authorities to verify whether the applicant meets the eligibility limits on income and assets, unless the applicant objects to such processing. If the applicant objects, or if the public authorities do not have the information or cannot provide it owing to technical issues, the applicant will be required to present the documentation necessary to prove their household income and assets. Upon completion of the selection process, UDC will verify the accuracy of the financial information submitted by the applicant with the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT).
