Aleksandar a R
D ALEKS URIC For ReviewA only ND ALEKSANDAR A R BEYOND BORDERS DURIC WITH GLENN WRAY BEYOND BORDERS THIS IS THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF “An inspirational read.” ALEKSANDAR DURIC Bryan Robson Former captain of England Born in Bosnia in the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and Manchester United Aleksandar Duric overcame a difficult childhood to become a junior canoeing champion. Against all odds, he made an unlikely appearance at the 1992 Olympic Games whilst the fires of the Bosnian War raged in his homeland, a war that had tragic consequences for the Duric family. A nomadic career in football followed, before Duric finally found his feet — and his home — in Singapore. It was in this Southeast Asian nation that Duric truly made his name, becoming an all-conquering force in Singapore’s top domestic league and going on to represent the Singapore national team more than 50 times. Told in a refreshingly frank and honest manner, Beyond Borders is far more than a footballer’s memoir. Duric’s tale of tragedy and triumph, adversity and adventure, is as surprising as it is inspiring. “A gripping account of hardship, heart and hustle with almost no connection to the glamour and glory that fans associate with the modern-day game.” Steve Dawson, presenter, Fox Sports Asia Marshall Cavendish BIOGRAPHY/SPORT Editions ISBN 978-981-4751-05-6 ,!7IJ8B4-hfbafg! For Review only “Aleks has been a superb ambassador for Singaporean football. His professionalism is exemplary and to this day he remains a role model to all professional footballers for his discipline and dedication. -
Interview with Our Head Librarian Clive Pereira Q: Haha
SHOOK LIN & BOK INTERVIEWS I tried not to hold that remark against him throughout the remainder of the interview. Here’s how it went. Q: How long have you been a Liverpool fan? A: Since 1977. Keegan’s era. Kevin Keegan, John Toshack and Jimmy Case. I actually started following them after their FA Cup loss. I watched my first Liverpool match whilst I was on a ‘retreat’ when I was in Form 5. Usually at the end of the school year, we would have a ‘retreat’, which would be organized by one of the Brothers. The Liverpool game I watched was the FA Cup Final of 1977 where we played Manchester United. But we lost, 2 – 1. Q: So you must have been a Liverpool fan when you joined the firm. A: Yes I was. But I’ve always had this feeling that Liverpool haven’t been winning any league titles because I joined this firm! 1990 was the last time they won the league. I joined Shook Lin & Bok in 1991! Interview with our Head Librarian Clive Pereira Q: Haha. Have you ever thought of working elsewhere in the best interests of the Liverpool by Gregory Das team? Shook Lin & Bok’s Head Librarian, Mr. Clive A: Haha no no. Pereira, is a man of many talents. His admirable ability to locate the most archaic of English cases Q: So you joined the firm over 20 years ago? from the forgotten corners of the firm’s library is matched only by his tenacious entrepreneurial A: Yes I joined on the 1st of October 1991. -

Players – Terry Hibbitt – a Wayward Genius
Players – Terry Hibbitt – A wayward genius Terry Hibbitt‘s impressive entrance into senior football hinted that he could be one of the most glorious talents to emerge from Leeds United‘s golden generation of the Sixties. He was given his first team debut as an 18-year-old against Nottingham Forest on 19 February 1966, coming on as a first half substitute for Paul Madeley. Within minutes of taking the field Hibbitt scored a stunning goal, lobbing goalkeeper Peter Grummitt from 20 yards. For the next three years the talented left winger continued to show rich potential whenever given an opportunity by Don Revie, but he disappeared into the cul-de-sac of reserve team football after the talented Eddie Gray established himself as Revie‘s preferred choice on the left flank. A £30,000 transfer to Newcastle United in 1971 gave Hibbitt the chance of reviving his career, and he used the platform to give clear evidence of his prowess in a playmaking role. Hibbitt‘s younger brother Ken, born on 3 January 1951 and an England Under-23 cap, also enjoyed a long and successful professional career, mainly at Wolves (1968-84), with spells at Bradford Park Avenue, Seattle Sounders, Coventry City and Bristol Rovers. Frail of build and bandy of leg, Terry Hibbitt did not have a classic athlete‘s build, but he was an outstanding midfielder, playing cultured and intelligent football. He possessed a great range of passing skills and an instinctive feel for the through ball which benefited Malcolm Macdonald among others. Toon midfield colleague Terry McDermott: ―Hibby had a left foot that was like a magic wand. -
