BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF DISTRICT VETERINARY & ANIMAL HUSBANDRY OFFICER, WANAPARTHY DISTRICT, TELANGANA STATE . The department is relating to Livestock production, Preservation, Protection from disease and improvement of stocks and dairy development of livestock through provision of health care. Wanaparthy district is endowed with rich livestock resources characterized by subsidiary dairy animals, small dairy units, backyard poultry, specialized poultry farming, extensive sheep flock, often migratory system etc. Livestock plays an important role in improvement of rural Livelihood. Institution Network: The following Veterinary institutions are catering the needs of farmers in rural areas in providing animal health and productivity enhancement services besides implementing the Government schemes for the benefit of farmers. Nellore and Bellary Sheep breeds are also reared in the District. Sheep breeding and rearing has the potential to offer employment to the landless labour, small and marginal farmers, nomadic and semi nomadic people etc. with little investments and with a potential of generation of quick returns. The products like skin, wool hair, various organs, intestines and almost all parts are value generating, if properly collected and used. Majority of cattle and buffaloes in this district are non-descript and unproductive. To improve the productivity of the animals systematic efforts are being made through upgrading the non-descript buffaloes and crossbreeding of non-descript cattle by introduction of Artificial Insemination Programme. In this (410) Animals were grounded till today under replacement of sheep deaths. NOTES ON ANIMAL HUSBANDRY DEPARTMENT – WANAPARTHY DISTRICT 1. Brief Introduction about the Department: The mandate of Animal Husbandry department is to increase the availability of animal origin food like milk, meat and eggs for human consumption through scientific breeding, feeding and disease management through: 1. Livestock Breed improvement through cross breeding 2. Nutritious feed and fodder development for livestock 3. Health care of Livestock 4. Disease diagnosis, prevention, control and treatment of livestock 5. Extension and Training activities 6. Establishment of Sheep markets 7. Implementation of poverty alleviation programmes for socio-economic up liftment of Below Poverty Line citizens.
