Overview Funding Document Vmay 2011 Protected
2011 THE UNITED NATIONS OVERVIEW OF NEEDS AND ASSISTANCE THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA Preface The humanitarian work of the UN Country Team (UNCT) in DPRK involves five UN Agencies: FAO, UNFPA, UNICEF, WFP and WHO whilst a sixth Agency, UNDP, houses the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office. Difficulties in securing a steady financial support for humanitarian activities has led the UNCT to issue a monthly note to the Emergency Relief Coordinator in OCHA with the purpose of keeping current, the hardships the population faces on a daily basis. The UNCT has prepared a more comprehensive document - the Overview Funding Document for 2011 - as a tool to inform the international community about the current humanitarian issues in DPR Korea. It also addresses donors’ concerns regarding the UN Agencies’ ability to deliver increased assistance effectively. Substantive drafting processes for this document relied on data and analysis from the Thematic Groups which comprise all humanitarian partners including International NGOs. The focus of the humanitarian work of the agencies in DPR Korea is on mitigating the protracted crisis in the country through programmes which address the immediate food, health, water and sanitation, and educational needs. We in the UNCT are convinced that our engagement, maintenance of an in-country presence and full adherence to humanitarian principles have been positive factors in improving the situation for the people of DPR Korea and that this approach continues to be the best way to proceed. In particular the humanitarian and rehabilitation programmes implemented in the country during the last five years have, without doubt, achieved positive results for a great number of people in the country. -

Asian Football Magazine, a New Project That Will Focus on Different Regions of Asia, Exploring Football, Economic and Social Issues Linked to Our Favorite Sport
1 It is with great pleasure that we present to our readers the first issue of All Asian Football Magazine, a new project that will focus on different regions of Asia, exploring football, economic and social issues linked to our favorite sport. In this first release we decided to focus our attention on the Arabian Peninsula, exploring the political diatribe that has been going on since 2017, when Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf monarchies decided to end diplomatic relations with Qatar. Doha has been accused of supporting terrorism, as it is closer, politically speaking, to Shiite Iran, the great enemy of Riyadh. For over a decade, the Arab states, through the richest sovereign wealth funds, have started investing in football by changing the balance of power on a global level, in a way that Russia and China have not yet managed to accomplish. The Emirs' Manchester City and Qatar's Paris Saint Germain have overturned the European transfer market by raising the bar more and more every year, up to the over 200 million euros that the Parisians spent to snatch Neymar from Barcelona. These aggressive maneuvers have led to a surge in the price of the players transfer prize, but for the two 'Arab clubs' there are consequences to pay: Manchester City was banned by UEFA to partecipate to European Cups for the next two years having violeted the Financial Fair Play, and Paris Saint Germain could be the next club to be banned. The biggest controversy in world football was the assignment of the World Cup in Qatar, an unexpected event that put the small Gulf state at the center of global attention. -

As part of this extensive activity, in the 1990s, Hezbollah adopted the Al-Ahed Sport Club, which operates one of the leading soccer teams in Lebanon. The club maintains a close connection with Hezbollah’s Sports Mobilization and is possibly subordinate to it. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is described as a great fan of the Al-Ahed soccer team. During the past 15 years, the Al-Ahed soccer team has recorded many achievements. Its players have won a series of championships in the Lebanese league and the Lebanese Cup. -
