  • Satipaṭṭhāna Meditation: a Practice Guide
Praise for Satipaṭṭhāna Meditation: A Practice Guide This is a pearl of a book. On reading it, and comparing it to the author’s previous two studies of satipaṭṭhāna, the impression is that of having left the university lecture theatre and entered the meditation hall, where the wise and experienced teacher is offering Dhamma reflections, illuminating the practice of satipaṭṭhāna with a fertile and colourful lucidity, free of footnotes and arcane cross-references. This book is a treasure-house of practical teachings, rendered accessible with a clear and simple eloquence. The author states that his motivation has been to enrich the practice of satipaṭṭhāna rather than to compete with other approaches – he has succeeded admirably in this, I feel, and with praiseworthy skill and grace. – Ajahn Amaro This breathtaking practice guide is brief, and profound! It offers a detailed, engaging, and flexible approach to satipaṭṭhāna meditation that can be easily applied both in meditation and in day-to-day activities. The inspired practice suggestions and joyful enquiry that pervade each chapter will draw students, gradually but surely, towards deep liberating insight. Satipaṭṭhāna Meditation: A Practice Guide is destined to become an invaluable resource for meditators! – Shaila Catherine, author of Focused and Fearless: A Meditator’s Guide to States of Deep Joy, Calm, and Clarity Once more Bhikkhu Anālayo has written a masterpiece that holds within it an accessible and clear guide to developing and applying the teachings held within the Satipaṭṭhāna-sutta. Within this book Anālayo explores the subtle nuances of developing mindfulness and how that dedicated cultivation leads to the awakening pointed to in the discourse.

  • An Introduction to Morphos
An Introduction to MorphOS Updated to include features to version 1.4.5 May 14, 2005 MorphOS 1.4 This presentation gives an overview of MorphOS and the features that are present in the MorphOS 1.4 shipping product. For a fully comprehensive list please see the "Full Features list" which can be found at: www.PegasosPPC.com Why MorphOS? Modern Operating Systems are powerful, flexible and stable tools. For the most part, if you know how to look after them, they do their job reasonably well. But, they are just tools to do a job. They've lost their spark, they're boring. A long time ago computers were fun, it is this background that MorphOS came from and this is what MorphOS is for, making computers fun again. What is MorphOS? MorphOS is a fully featured desktop Operating System for PowerPC CPUs. It is small, highly responsive and has very low hardware requirements. The overall structure of MorphOS is based on a new modern kernel called Quark and a structure divided into a series of "boxes". This system allows different OS APIs to be used along side one another but isolates them so one cannot compromise the other. To make sure there is plenty of software to begin with the majority of development to date has been based on the A- BOX. In the future the more advanced Q-Box shall be added. Compatibility The A-Box is an entire PowerPC native OS layer which includes source and binary compatibility with software for the Commodore A500 / A1200 etc.

THOMA S MERTON, PROPHET-PATR I CK EASTM AN 182 For the Sake of the World used as a pattern for a broader based prophetic and mystical commu nity for our world today. First, I will look at the basis for the monastic fuga mundi in terms of both the Christian and the Buddhist traditions. I will then indicate how that is manifested in the well-known figures PATRICK EASTMAN of the Christian monk, Thomas Merton, and the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. These two figures I will suggest are models of the mystical and prophetic to inspire us today. We look first then to the Christian tradition. If we start with the gospels we can clearly see that the central message ofJesus is about a HESE TIMES HAVE BEEN described by some as the new axial age or "kingdom" which is essentially a "this world" reality. • State Inconsistency Issues in Local Area Network-Based Distributed Kernels
State inconsistency issues in local area network-based distributed kernels K. Ravindran & Samuel T. Chanson Technical Report 85-7 August 1985 ABSTRACT State inconsistency is an inherent problem m distributed computing systems (DCS) because of the high degree of autonomy of the executing entities and the inherent delays and errors in communicating events among them. Thus any reliable DCS should provide means to recover from such errors. This paper discusses the state inconsistency issues and their solution techniques in local area network based distri buted kernels. In particular, we deal with state inconsistencies due to i) failures of processes, machines and/or the network, ii) packet losses, iii) new machines joining or exiting from the network, and iv) processes or hosts migrating from one machine to another in the network. The solutions presented are mostly provided within the ker nel itself and are transparent to the applications. I' State inconsistency issues in local area network-based distributed kernels 1.0 Introduction As local area network ( LAN ) technologies move out of the laboratory and into the market place interests in LAN-based distributed computing systems ( LDCS ) have become widespread. Several experimental LAN-based distributed kernels have been built in the last few years including the V-system (3), Rochester's Intelligent Gateway (6], PORT [9], Accent (7], SHOSHIN [11], DEMOS(13) and Eden [18] . These distributed ker nels manage objects which may physically reside on different machines. The executing entities in such systems exhibit a high degree of autonomy but may interact with one another from time to time. Thus a state change in one entity may cause the state of one or more other entities to change.

Thank you, Drs. Christina von Mayrhauser, Sabina Magliocco, and Kimberly Kirner. Each of you has played a significant role in developing and honing my skills and intellect in anthropological thought and, perhaps more significantly, in being a good person. Additionally, I would like to single out two students without whose friendship (more accurately, mentorship) I would not have completed this degree: Victoria Weaver and Kevin Zemlicka. Victoria and Kevin, I am honored to have you as such dear friends. From our mutual experiences in this program, I know that our bond is permanent. Please be prepared to keep assisting me with my many neuroses in the future. To all of those mentioned above, know that you have instilled in me aspects of character, personality, identity (or whatever the hell you want to call it) that will remain with me eternally.

Illuminating the Threefold Faith: An Invocation of the Seventeen Great Scholar-Adepts of Glorious Nalanda 1. Lord of Lords, arisen from the compassionate wish to benefit wandering beings, You have attained sublime protection, abandonment and realization, And liberates sentient beings through teaching dependent arising. I bow to you, Conqueror, Sun among Teachers. 2. I call to mind esteemed Nagarjuna, who, as the Conqueror prophesied, Introduced the Middle Way of the Supreme Vehicle, and was skilled in clarifying The meaning of suchness, free of extremes, as intended in the Mother of the Conquerors, Through the profound, logical presentation of dependent arising. 3. I call to mind the Bodhisattva Aryadeva, His principal spiritual son, the most learned and accomplished, Who traversed the ocean of Buddhist and other philosophies, Who is the glorious crowning jewel among all holders of Nagarjuna's treatises. 4. I call to mind esteemed Buddhapalita, Who clarified the ultimate meaning of dependent arising—thought of the Superior [Nagarjuna], Essential point of the profound, existence as mere designation and name— And has ascended to the utmost state of accomplishment. 5. I call to mind Acharya Bhavaviveka, erudite master Who introduced a philosophical view That refuted such extremes as truly existent production, While accepting commonly verified knowledge and external objects. 6. I call to mind Chandrakirti, who promulgated the complete path of Sutra and Tantra, Who was skilled in expounding the profound and vast Middle Way, In which appearance and emptiness eliminate the two extremes Through dependent arising and the merely conditional (nature of things). 7. I call to mind the Bodhisattva Shantideva, Skilled in teaching a host of fortunate disciples The truly marvellous path of great compassion Through versatile means of reasoning, profound and vast.
