GRAND PARADE OF SAIL

Saturday, June 17 | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM The Grand Parade of Sail will highlight the day’s activities as vessels parade in flotillas from Broad Sound into the main channel of Harbor turning at Charlestown, before proceeding to their assigned berthing areas. Public viewing of the parade will be spectacular from Castle Island, the Seaport District, the Boston Waterfront, East Boston, the North End and Charlestown.

SPECTATOR AREAS ON DEER ISLAND SAIL BOSTON SHUTTLE TO YIRRELL BEACH ON SATURDAY, JUNE 17

The Town of Winthrop will be providing a free shuttle service for the Sail Boston events being held at Yirrell Beach on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. All vessels taking part in the Parade of Sail will be staging off-shore in this area prior to making the turn at Deer Island and heading into the harbor.

This shuttle will transport people from designated off-site parking areas to the Public Landing for access to Yirrell Beach. Signs for the off-site parking will be posted for this event and have been designated as the following:

 Veterans Road: Park/Golf Course side  Winthrop Middle/High School Rear Lot  Perimeter of the High School Tennis Courts  Walden Street: Ingleside Park Side  Larsen Rink Parking Lot  Walden Street Parking Lot  Cummings School Parking Lot on School Street

Shuttle stops will be posted and are being provided in the following locations:

 Four stops along the length of Veterans Road  The Cross Street side of the Middle/High School  Walden Street  The corner of Walden & Pauline Streets  School Street (in the rear of the Cummings School)  The Public Landing

The shuttle route will begin and end at the Public Landing, and will run in a loop approximately every 20 minutes. From 2:00 to 4:00, the shuttle will be drop-off only, taking people back from the Public Landing to the parking areas. The last shuttle will leave the Public Landing at 3:40. For return service after the shuttle has ended, all parking areas are conveniently located along the Paul Revere/MBTA 712 & 713 bus routes.

Due to equipment limitations, the shuttle is not handicapped accessible. For handicapped accessible transportation to the event, please utilize the Paul Revere/MBTA bus service, with a stop conveniently located near the Walden Street, Larsen Rink, and School Street parking areas.

This shuttle will only be providing transportation to the Public Landing for access to the events at Yirrell Beach. It will not be going to Deer Island.

Crew 2 06/16 to 06/23 - The crew completed the stub installation on Woodside Ave @ Pleasant St. There are 4 remaining streets that the crew will install stubs for: Williams St going toward the odd side of pleasant street. Bartlett Rd, Cottage Park and Somerset Ave on the even side of the street, the stubs on the odd side of those streets are already completed.

No crews will be working on Saturday.

NOTIFICATION OF NIGHT WORK MWRA Sewer Study

Hazen and Sawyer (a MWRA contractor) will be conducting night work for an MWRA sewer study starting the third full week of June from 7:00 pm – 7:00 am. Please see the map below for locations. The survey should be completed in 3 weeks.

This study will be a comprehensive assessment of sewer sections 4, 5, 6, and 186. Interior material core samples will be taken as well as videotaping and laser scanning of the interior of the sewer to allow the technicians to make an assessment of the infrastructure's condition.

This night work will not involve heavy equipment. The inspection The Winthrop Farmers Market is an initiative run by a committee crew will be distributing fliers of local volunteers who are enthusiastic to bring a farmer's market door-to-door in advance of their to Winthrop, MA. Due to construction during our 2017 market effort. season the market will be moved to the Larsen Ice Skating Rink parking lot which is located at 45 Pauline St., Winthrop, MA. The markets run every other Sunday throughout the summer and will start this year on June 18th, 2017 with the last market on October 22nd, 2017. DCR JUNE 2017 EVENTS

Listen to the words of Charles Eliot a landscape architect who passionately worked to preserve scenes of natural beauty for the well being of you and everyone in Massachusetts. Program is wheel chair accessible on easy, level terrain. Meet at: Outside at One Eliot Circle, Revere MA (The tan DCR building at the corner of Dolphin Avenue). Shorebird Surprises Revere Beach Reservation Tuesdays, June 27 7:00 -8:30p.m. Explore beautiful Revere Beach for shorebirds and Manx Shearwaters and learn how these birds are adapted for survival. Walk up to 3 miles on the beach, on mud flats and paths. Some binoculars and a spotting scope will be provided but please bring these items if you have them. Meet at: Across the street from One Carey Circle on the sidewalk of the semicircular parking lot.

Birding 101 at Halibut Point State Park - Halibut Point State Park Sunday, June 18 8:00 -10:00 a.m. Join us on a two-hour walk over easy to moderate trails in search of seasonal specialties. Beginners are encouraged to attend. Boots are advisable. Please bring your binoculars and if you are able to, a spotting scope to share. For more information, contact Peter Van Demark at [email protected]. Meet at: Halibut Point State Park, Parking lot, on Gott Avenue in Rockport. Daily Parking Fee applies, Co-sponsored by the Brookline Bird Club.

VETERANS SERVICES NEWS

The next Veterans/Families Food Bank will take place Wednesday, July 5th at the American Legion (next to Town Hall). Pick-up is from 10:30-11:30. If you are new to our Food Bank, then you must pre-register with Veteran Services. For more information call the Veterans Service office at (617) 846-3065.

2017 STREET SWEEPING

The Town of Winthrop conducts Street Sweeping operations on the last full week of the month (last week with a Friday) from April through October between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM on the day of a street's trash collection. If there is a holiday on the week sweeping would normally occur, sweeping is done a week early. Town ordinance prohibits parking in a manner that impedes the street sweeper. Violation of the street sweeping ordinance carries a $40.00 fine, and your vehicle can be towed. The 2017 street sweeping dates are: June 26-30 July 24-28 Aug. 21-25 Sep. 25-39 Oct. 23-27

Plans are in the works for an “I love Winthrop” event in the fall. There is a planning meeting scheduled for anyone who would like to help on Monday, June 26th at 6:30 at the EB Newton School. At this meeting we can form an outline of what the event will consist of & who will be in charge of what. There has been an outreach of people with some great ideas!
