East Bank, West Virginia - "Upper Kanawha Valley” Workcamp July 4 to July 11, 2020 East Bank was founded just before the 1900s when coal-mining operations were at their peak. This community grew in spirit and small-town vibes until multiple years of flooding wiped out pieces of their town and history. Located along the Kanawha River, this Appalachian community has been left to fight for its place in the state. Today, many residents with disabilities and Black Lung disease populate East Bank. The population may be older, but the community and culture are rich and bold. During your time in the city, you will make new friends whom you'll never forget and make real, practical differences in these residents’ lives. You will be hard pressed to find more appreciati ve individuals than those of West Virginia. Remember, these West Virginians are strong individuals who have contributed much to this nation's success.

How You'll Serve: Projects in East Bank could include painting, weatherization, and skirting to protect homes against time and weather. Throughout the week, participants may also construct ramps and porches for residents in need.
