CENTRAL CHAPTER NEWS & NOTES

APRIL, 2018 NOTES FROM THE CHAPTER CHAIR

The Chapter held a Holiday Party on December 4TH with 111 in attendance. I think everyone enjoyed our entertainment of EDDIE FAGAN with a combination of Holiday music, old time favorites and sing-alongs.

I want to thank our Steering Committee (as well as several husbands) for their help in preparing for this event and for their extensive help during the party itself. We couldn’t have done it without everyone helping! Plus, a thank you to members JUDY BARTON, TERI RISLEY and LILLIE WELYCH for their help in selling our raffle tickets.

We have donation jars on tables at each of our meetings. In December we collected for a local food pantry- St. Lucy’s Church in Syracuse, NY. This pantry serves some of the poorest in our community. We collected $159 and they were extremely appreciative to receive it. We also collected old or used eye glasses to donate.

Our 50/50 raffle of $118 was won by DON GROVINE. We have a Money Tree for our Holiday Party consisting of cash and lottery tickets with a value of $100 – plus a small artificial tree with whatever decorations are on it. This year this was won by DIANE JUSTIAN.

Many individuals and companies donated either gift baskets to be raffled off, items for gift baskets or door prizes. We want to acknowledge and thank all of them for their generosity: ASHLEY LYNN WINE, BAYBERRY HAIRSTYLISTS, CAROL BRAUND, SYRACUSE CHIEFS, MARGAL COLEGROVE, COPPERTOP RESTAURANT, DAWN BENNETT, DIANE DWIRE, GOOD BUDDY’S RESTAURANT, JUDY LIEBER-BUTLER, JUST HAIR, MAN IN THE MOON CHOCOLATES, MARY KLEMENTOWSKI, NICHOLS GROCERY, RED SCHOOL HOUSE MAPLE, ROSE D’AGOSTINO, RUDY’S OF LAKE ONTARIO, TULLY’S RESTAURANT, TWO GUYS AUTO. We couldn’t have done this without their help.

The lucky recipients of our many gift baskets were: CARLO BASTA, DAWN BENNETT, DONA CLARK, VINCE CUTRIE, WESLEY EASTWOOD, BOB HENNING, CHET JUSTIAN, TERRY KLOSOWSKI, DONNA LEPAGE, JUDY LIEBER-BUTLER, TERI RISLEY AND FRANK VISSER. We also had about 50 door prizes that were given away consisting of gift cards, gift certificates, candy and other.

This was all followed by a special travel presentation of our trip for 2018: AMERICA’S COWBOY COUNTRY September 23-30, 2018. We are holding 24 airline seats to fly to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, board a tour bus and visit Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Buffalo Bill Center of the West, Dead- wood, Crazy Horse Memorial, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands National Park and lots in between. If you have a friend or relative who wants to join us but not fly out of Syracuse, let me know and we’ll get a price quote from their airport of choice. If you need a roommate, check with Chapter Chair Dawn Bennett at 315-437-7464 or [email protected] and I can tell you who else is looking for one.

We will hold an election for our Steering Committee at the April 9TH Annual Meeting. We are always looking for more people to help out and to share some new ideas and make the load lighter for everyone. If interested, please call Dawn.

Our speaker at this meeting will be RPEA Capital District Chapter Chair JIM RULISON. He will discuss the topic of "Organizing One’s Vital Records". This isn’t just about doing your survivors a favor. It’s also about being prepared for unexpected health related emergencies and/or nature’s fury impacting your abil- ity to retrieve or communicate the whereabouts of those records. It is an interactive program that discusses various ways to identify and quickly access your vital written and electronic information and records.

We all have friends, family and neighbors who have retired from public service. Bring them with you to our meeting and if they join RPEA that day, we will refund $5.00 of their meal cost.

We will again be collecting eyeglasses – whether it be the whole eyeglass, just the lens or just the frame (also accept glass cases).
