Quick read Suarez ruled out of Uruguay’s World Cup qualifiers after suffering knee injury MADRID: Luis Suarez will not feature for Uruguay in September’s World Cup qualifiers after suffering a knee injury against Villarreal on Sunday. Suarez started for the first time of the new season for Atletico Madrid and equalised for Diego Simeone’s men to record his eighth goal involvement in 13 games against Villarreal. However, the Atletico forward was forced off 14 minutes later after appearing to have discomfort in his left knee. Following scans in Spain, Atletico have found a moderate swelling in Suarez’s knee and informed Uruguay that the 34-year-old will not be available for the World Cup qualifiers against Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. The former Barcelona forward is expected to undergo further treatment throughout the week, though it remains unclear whether he will be fit enough to feature against Espanyol on September 12. Fortunately for the La Liga champions, they acquired Matheus Cunha in late August and Angel Correa is in fine form, scoring three in his first three games of 2021-22. Uruguay, though, have not been so lucky. Suarez’s injury further compounds Oscar Tabarez’s problems as he is left without two strikers for the qualifiers, Edinson Cavani his other absentee. Manchester United striker Cavani’s absence was confirmed on Monday, too, as Uruguay announced he would not be travelling to South America amid issues over quarantining on his return to Britain. (DPA) Al Shamal are making a comeback to the First Division after a gap of more than six years.

  • Geotechnical Study of the Rocks in Qatar and Construction Techniques
The American University in Cairo The School of Sciences and Engineering Engineering Characteristics of Rocks in Qatar; Applications on Excavation and Tunneling A thesis submitted to The Department of Construction Engineering In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Construction Engineering By Ahmed Fawzy Kassem Under the Supervision of Prof. Safwan Khedr Professor of Construction Engineering, AUC Dr. Nasser A. Alnuaimi Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Qatar University Spring 2016 Abstract Excavation as well as tunneling have become fundamental operations in the advanced civil engineering field. In Qatar, many subsurface construction operations take place in rocks. However, the lack of studies and research that analyze the subsurface rock components from a geotechnical engineering perspective has created unexpected construction conditions. Most of similar studies handled concerns about properties related to oil and gas fields. This research aims to provide a geotechnical study for rocks in Qatar, and to illustrate the impact of the existence of these rock layers on two civil applications; namely excavation and tunneling. During this study, soil investigation reports and rock samples are collected from several bores located in Qatar, and a classification system is utilized to classify the rock samples to identify and study the properties of the existed rocks. Also, numerous production rates from different tunneling and excavation projects are recorded and analyzed, in order to clarify the relation between these rates and the classified rock layers. Based on this analysis, a geotechnical study and mapping system for the rocks in Qatar are presented. Reliable tools for predicting the average productivities of excavation and tunneling projects in Qatar are developed, these tools are aiming to facilitate designing, bidding and executing processes involved with these types of rocks.

  • Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee Unveils Concept Design for Al Wakrah Stadium
Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee unveils concept design for Al Wakrah Stadium AL WAKRAH, QATAR: 18 November 2013 — The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee today unveiled the new concept design for Al Wakrah Stadium. AECOM, in association with Zaha Hadid Architects, have developed the new, innovative design under the guidance of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee. Al Wakrah — famous for its fishing and seafaring heritage — is the proposed southern-most Host City for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™. Located approximately fifteen kilometres south of Doha, Al Wakrah has served as a vital commercial port and a gateway to the capital throughout Qatar’s history. Al Wakrah’s tradition is reflected in the stadium design, which captures the essence of the traditional dhow, an Arabian pearl fishing boat. The design of the stadium and the development of an approx. 585,000 m2 precinct area surrounding it will embrace the cultural heritage of Al Wakrah and the adjacent historical settlement of Al Wukair. The stadium will have a gross capacity of 40,000. The top-tiers of the stadium will be modular, allowing the stadium’s capacity to be lowered to 20,000. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General, Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, said: “Today’s announcement constitutes the first in an upcoming series of progress-related events and initiatives as we enter the early phase of delivering the promises we made to FIFA and the international football community during the bid. We are proud to reveal what we believe is a truly unique stadium design and surrounding precinct that will serve the population and act as a social hub for the community of Al Wakrah, and Qatar as a whole, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and for the years to follow.
