- BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise has been selected seventh in the Mountain East Conference Preseason - Football Poll that was released Thursday as part of the league’s annual media day held at the league of fices. Shepherd University was tabbed as the preseason favorite, the Rams have won the last three confer ence titles and received six of the 11 first place votes. Fairmont State University earned a trio of first place votes to be picked second while Notre Dame College and the University of Charleston each earned a first place vote to rank third and fourth in the poll, respectively. UVa-Wise will be playing its final season in the MEC before moving to the South Atlantic Conference next fall. A year ago, the Highland Cavaliers posted a 5-6 mark after beginning the year 3-1.
