Gelandesprung Gazette “Going Downhill since 1969!”

Life on Adam's Street

Hello and welcome to another page-turning edition of the Gelandesprung Gazette, your monthly newsletter. We are happy to have you and glad that you have come back around for another update. If that’s why you’re here, then definitely read on as I have some important news to share here in this section.

The Board and I were extremely pleased with the turnout at our social gathering October 2 at The Woods. We have been blown away by the fact that we already have 63 registrations for our Big Sky Trip as well! You have demonstrated to us that you definitely want to gather and ski again. It is our intention to do that, to the best of our ability, keeping member safety in mind.

Covid is putting a damper on our excitement and bringing us back to reality. Regardless of your viewpoints, the news says it every day, the numbers continue to rise and we are in a hot spot of the country.

It was our initial hope to have in-person General Membership meetings this season. With statistics being what they are, it was a unanimous approval to make this season’s General Membership meetings virtual recordings. We will not gather in-person for meetings at all this ski season, up to, and possibly including, the Spring Banquet. Instead, watch your email for a video of what would have been presented at the normal General Membership meetings. For December, we hope to have this available to you in the December newsletter.

One topic that is being discussed, and a decision will be reached soon, is that of busses for trips. It is not determined yet, although a likely possibility that all Midwest trips will be carpool/drive yourself. Please watch the video in December for more details on our decision.

In order for us to succeed as a club in this new normal, responsible action is required by each and every one of us. Regardless of your personal viewpoints on Covid-19 please respect your fellow club members. When we gather, remember to practice social distancing, wear your mask if you are able, and stay home if you’re feeling ill or not comfortable with the setting.

Thank you, Adam N. Hanson President

Boyne Highlands Golf 2020 8 of us took the trip to Boyne Highlands for a great 3 days of golf and fun. The weather was cool and the Fall colors were spectacular! We stayed at the Bartley House which was in walking distance to everything at BH. The Slopeside Bar and Grill was open for food and drinks. Breakfast was at the main dinning room and was included in the package. The first day of golf was at Crooked Tree in Bay Harbor, about a 25-minute drive from BH. The course was very nice and had some great views of Little Traverse Bay. We had a 2 o’clock tee time so we finished about dinner time. Everyone did dinner on their own that night and most checked in early after a long day. The second day we golfed Arthur Hills at BH. I think all us agree this is our new favorite Midwest golf course. Excellent course with stunning Fall color views through-out the course. A few of us got in 2 extra holes as we made a wrong turn going to 17 and ended up playing 2 holes before we realized our mistake. Kevin and Tom played the course again that day after our round. Shelly and Jackie spent the day riding their bikes along the nice paved Little Traverse Wheelway Trail that follows the shoreline of Little Traverse Bay. They stopped at shops and checked out restaurants for the night’s meal. They also picked up my bike which had a flat the previous day. The Wickhams, Brian Mudd and the Quicks went to the Fox and Rose, a nice dinning place, that night in Bay Harbor.

The final day, we golfed The Heather which is the closest course to the main lodge. You could see the ski runs from many of the holes on the course. Again, another very nice course! We were told that during the summer, BH does 700 rounds of golf a day! Wrap your head around that! There is so much more to this property than what we see when we ski there. Great golf at a very good price as well as other fun things to do in the area. We will definitely be coming back!! Ron Quick

Our Big Sky trip is still 4 1/2 months away. But now is the time to sign up if you wish to go. Demand for the trip is strong. We have asked for a few more condominiums to accommodate people that have signed up. But please do sign up ifyou want to go so that we can be sure to have rooms for you. Call, text, or email thetrip leader or assistant trip leader for information. If your call is not answered, doleave a voice mail. Your call will be returned.

Please know that the pandemic has been part of our discussion throughout the planning process. A lot could change between now and March 13. Your safety onthe trip is a top priority. Skiing is outdoors and is a relatively safe activity. We mustall be vigilant to avoid Covid when we are with others. To this end, we will expecteveryone to follow CDC guidelines throughout the trip. Properly wearing your maskand social distancing will be required at any time we gather. Outdoor venues forour gatherings will be considered as well as the size of any place we would choosefor an indoor gathering.

Big Sky Resort does have a well developed operating plan. You can view the plan atthe resort’s website https://bigskyresort.com/winter-operations-update .

Option One: $25 per person • Primary medical coverage - $50K per person. • Medical evacuation and repatriation - $250K per person. • Trip Delay – For lodging and meals if you are delayed more than six hours due to inclement weather. Up to max $750 ($150/day) per person. • Missed Connection – if your first flight is delayed more than three hours and you miss your connecting flight. (You can buy a new airline ticket to your final destination. Maximum $500 per person). • Baggage delay $400 per person – must wait 24 hours before using this benefit. • Limited Trip Interruption – Limited up to $500 per person towards airfare for return flight only. (You will not be reimbursed for any loss of your trip cost, a higher airfare collection over $500 per person or for additional lodging and meals if you must remain behind due to an accident or illness). (Trip Cancellation and Full Trip Interruption Coverage not included in option one! You must purchase option two or three described below).

Option Two: Trip Cancellation and Full Trip Interruption Coverage ($25 benefits already included in premium. You do not have to add on). (Does not include coverage to cancel trip due to covid-19! You must purchase option three!). Cost of Trip Per Person Premium Per Person $1001 - $1500 $112 $1501 - $2000 $138 $2001 - $2500 $174 $2501 - $3000 $206 $3001 - $3500 $233 $3501 - $4000 $290 $4001 - $4500 $331 $4501 - $5000 $383 $5001 - $5500 $424

What does trip cancellation and full trip interruption mean? (It does not mean you can cancel for covid 19!). Here are the standard reasons to cancel the trip and receive a full 100% Refund:

1. If you, a traveling companion/s or immediate family member is ill, injured or passes away, before your home departure, you can cancel the trip and claim 100% refund of your trip cost. 2. If you had to suddenly and unexpectedly interrupt your trip due to you being ill, or injured, or an immediate family member is taken ill or injured or passes away, you will be reimbursed for the portion of the trip you miss and for a change of airfare up to a maximum of 150% of your trip cost. 3. If your traveling companion is ill, injured or passes before your departure from home but you still want to continue the trip, you will be reimbursed if charged a single supplement. 4. If your traveling companion is ill or injured but you are not and you no longer want to go on the trip, you can file a claim for a full reimbursement of trip cost.

Aug. 7, 2020

5. If you are injured or ill while traveling and must extend your stay, unexpectedly, the travel insurance reimburses you for your extended meals, lodging and transportation. 6. If you are already working and asked to cancel your trip due to work reasons, you can file a claim and be reimbursed provided the vacation time had already been approved. 7. If inclement weather makes your home uninhabitable or your destination unreachable, you can also cancel and get full a refund!

Pre-existing Medical Conditions: If you have a pre-existing medical condition, it can be waived, if you purchase the group travel insurance before you pay your final trip payment to the club. (Final trip payment is based on the date you put on the check and not the date the check is cashed). You must be well enough to travel at the time you buy the insurance. (You cannot be sick or injured or getting any kind of medical treatment for an injury or illness at the time you purchase the group plan).

Option Three ***Cancel for Any Reason aka CFAR – YOU MUST PURCHASE THIS PLAN IF YOU WANT TO BE INSURED FOR COVID-19 TRIP CANCELLATION! ***Cancel for any Reason allows you to cancel your trip for any reason whether it is a standard reason like illness, injury or death or due to fear of a pandemic/epidemic or fear of war or civil unrest or you have a pet and you want to be available if the pet is sick. (It does not apply if you must interrupt your trip to return home).

It is a very strict policy! 1. You must purchase it within 14 days of your very first trip deposit. The date on your check is considered day one AS YOU COUNT DAY THE 14 DAYS. (THE DATE THE CHECK IS CASHED DOES NOT APPLY). 2. You must notify the travel insurance company at least 48 hours prior to your departure date if you are cancelling the trip. Cancelling less than 48 hours results in no refund. 3. If you cancel for a non-standard reason, you will be refunded 75% of your trip cost not 100%. I 4. IF YOU CANCEL FOR A STANDARD REASON YOU WILL RECEIVE A 100% REFUND AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
