Gelandesprung Gazette “Going Downhill since 1969!” November 2020 www.gelandesprung.org P.O. Box 10422, Green Bay, WI 54307-0422 Life on Adam's Street Hello and welcome to another page-turning edition of the Gelandesprung Gazette, your monthly newsletter. We are happy to have you and glad that you have come back around for another update. If that’s why you’re here, then definitely read on as I have some important news to share here in this section. The Board and I were extremely pleased with the turnout at our social gathering October 2 at The Woods. We have been blown away by the fact that we already have 63 registrations for our Big Sky Trip as well! You have demonstrated to us that you definitely want to gather and ski again. It is our intention to do that, to the best of our ability, keeping member safety in mind. Covid is putting a damper on our excitement and bringing us back to reality. Regardless of your viewpoints, the news says it every day, the numbers continue to rise and we are in a hot spot of the country. It was our initial hope to have in-person General Membership meetings this season. With statistics being what they are, it was a unanimous approval to make this season’s General Membership meetings virtual recordings. We will not gather in-person for meetings at all this ski season, up to, and possibly including, the Spring Banquet. Instead, watch your email for a video of what would have been presented at the normal General Membership meetings. For December, we hope to have this available to you in the December newsletter. One topic that is being discussed, and a decision will be reached soon, is that of busses for trips. It is not determined yet, although a likely possibility that all Midwest trips will be carpool/drive yourself. Please watch the video in December for more details on our decision. In order for us to succeed as a club in this new normal, responsible action is required by each and every one of us. Regardless of your personal viewpoints on Covid-19 please respect your fellow club members. When we gather, remember to practice social distancing, wear your mask if you are able, and stay home if you’re feeling ill or not comfortable with the setting. Thank you, Adam N. Hanson President Boyne Highlands Golf 2020 8 of us took the trip to Boyne Highlands for a great 3 days of golf and fun. The weather was cool and the Fall colors were spectacular! We stayed at the Bartley House which was in walking distance to everything at BH. The Slopeside Bar and Grill was open for food and drinks. Breakfast was at the main dinning room and was included in the package. The first day of golf was at Crooked Tree in Bay Harbor, about a 25-minute drive from BH. The course was very nice and had some great views of Little Traverse Bay. We had a 2 o’clock tee time so we finished about dinner time. Everyone did dinner on their own that night and most checked in early after a long day. The second day we golfed Arthur Hills at BH. I think all us agree this is our new favorite Midwest golf course. Excellent course with stunning Fall color views through-out the course. A few of us got in 2 extra holes as we made a wrong turn going to 17 and ended up playing 2 holes before we realized our mistake. Kevin and Tom played the course again that day after our round. Shelly and Jackie spent the day riding their bikes along the nice paved Little Traverse Wheelway Trail that follows the shoreline of Little Traverse Bay. They stopped at shops and checked out restaurants for the night’s meal. They also picked up my bike which had a flat the previous day. The Wickhams, Brian Mudd and the Quicks went to the Fox and Rose, a nice dinning place, that night in Bay Harbor. The final day, we golfed The Heather which is the closest course to the main lodge. You could see the ski runs from many of the holes on the course. Again, another very nice course! We were told that during the summer, BH does 700 rounds of golf a day! Wrap your head around that! There is so much more to this property than what we see when we ski there. Great golf at a very good price as well as other fun things to do in the area. We will definitely be coming back!! Ron Quick Our Big Sky trip is still 4 1/2 months away. But now is the time to sign up if you wish to go. Demand for the trip is strong. We have asked for a few more condominiums to accommodate people that have signed up. But please do sign up ifyou want to go so that we can be sure to have rooms for you. Call, text, or email thetrip leader or assistant trip leader for information. If your call is not answered, doleave a voice mail. Your call will be returned. Please know that the pandemic has been part of our discussion throughout the planning process. A lot could change between now and March 13. Your safety onthe trip is a top priority. Skiing is outdoors and is a relatively safe activity. We mustall be vigilant to avoid Covid when we are with others. To this end, we will expecteveryone to follow CDC guidelines throughout the trip. Properly wearing your maskand social distancing will be required at any time we gather. Outdoor venues forour gatherings will be considered as well as the size of any place we would choosefor an indoor gathering. Big Sky Resort does have a well developed operating plan.
