Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO), NYC 2000 and Macy's Herald Square want to help you dress like a supermodel - exactly like a supermodel with the same dresses, fine jewelry and accessories worn on the runway during the NYC 2000 Fashion Show - one of the largest fashion shows ever held in New York. From June 1 through June 15, the NYC 2000 Fashion Auction, hosted by Yahoo! Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com), the fastest-growing, globally-branded free auction site on the Internet, puts more than 90 designer dresses and 38 pieces of fine jewelry up for virtual auction. (Overview at http://auctions.yahoo.com/) The bidding will kick off today at Macy's 34th street window during a 2:00 p.m. EST press conference with New York City Mayor Giuliani. All proceeds raised from the charity auction go to benefit The Center for Arts Education, a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide every student in New York City public schools with increased exposure to the arts. Yahoo! on 34th Street Through a uniquely-designed Internet kiosk at the famous 34th Street windows of Macy's Herald Square, New York City residents and visitors can view items and bid along with online bidders around the world on one-of-a-kind dresses and jewelry created by some of the world's most-renowned designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Halston, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, and Calvin Klein. In addition, visitors can view more than nine of the original millennium dresses now on display in the 34th Street windows. For those who cannot make it to New York City, but want to own a piece of runway history, visit Yahoo! Auctions at http://auctions.yahoo.com and bid on these fashion originals. Direct From The Runway to You For the first time, this auction makes available dresses and jewelry worn by some of the world's top models including Kylie Bax, Esther Canadas, Heidi Klum, Mark Vanderloo and celebrities such as Law & Order's Angie Harmon, Kristen Johnson (Third Rock from The Sun) and Roshumba (VH1 host and model) as they walked the runway during the NYC 2000 Fashion Show in Times Square just before the Millennium. Thirty-eight pieces of fine jewelry, ranging from a $30,000 Tahitian cultured pearl necklace to items retailing for under $100, have been donated by the fine jewelry industry, which is the third-largest manufacturing segment in New York City. The jewelry donations were coordinated by the Jewelry Information Center (JIC), a non-profit trade association that represents the entire fine jewelry industry, from suppliers to retailers. Headquartered in New York City, the JIC provides consumer information on new designers, trends and how and where to buy fine jewelry. "The NYC 2000 Fashion Auction is a fantastic example of how a non-profit organization can be supported in the New Century and is a landmark fashion event, merging the virtual and the physical world," said Rich Godwin, brand manager, Yahoo! Auctions. "Yahoo! Auctions and Macy's coupled with the city of New York offer an ideal stage to bring together a global Web audience and world-class retailer to deliver an interactive auction experience unlike any other and at the same time support arts in the New York City public schools." "More than 90 of the world's most influential designers contributed their time and creative energy to celebrate New York City during the NYC 2000 Fashion Show, and we are thrilled to unveil the next level of this important event in New York, the fashion capital of the world," said Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. "Together, Yahoo! Auctions, Macy's and NYC 2000 offer New Yorkers and visitors as well as people worldwide an opportunity to participate in history and appreciate the artistic advancements of our city's young people." With more than 15,000 fashion-related establishments and 225,000 employees, the fashion industry is one of New York City's largest employers and generates $19 billion in economic activity. New York is not only the nation's number-one host of fashion shows for world-renowned and established designers, it is also home to thousands of the world's up-and-coming designers who have trained in one of New York's eight prestigious schools dedicated to fashion and design. "We are proud to team with NYC 2000 and Yahoo! Auctions to bring this high profile and important event to life and set the stage for what is certain to be one of New York's and the Millennium's most memorable events," said Jean McFaddin, senior vice president, public relations and events, Macy's.
