THAT’S THE LIFE DJ Dainjazone Q&A

Joseph Hampel had aspired to pitch for Major League Baseball while playing through his senior year at New Mexico State University in 2006. But instead of traveling the US throwing the heat against one team or another, Hampel would end up touring internationally, spinning tunes alongside Grammy nominated dance and music duo LMFAO and their electro pop “ Crew” as their breakthrough performer, DJ Dainjazone.

“It just hit me one night, because I was playing baseball at New Mexico State and one of the baseball players said, ‘Hey I’m going to throw a [Halloween] party…’ I said, ‘I’ll just DJ the

party,’ since we like a certain kind of music,” says 30-year-old Dainjazone, who has since spanned six continents performing at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium alongside Madonna, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “Good Morning America,” The Billboard Music Awards, and festival stages across the globe, to name a few.

Now, Dainjazone—known as the Leader of the New School representing a younger generation of DJs—is ready to release a new mix tape with two-time Grammy winner Play-N-Skillz, Dainjazone Presents: Trap Hard Texas.

“We’re finally bringing something to the forefront that’s actually original,” he says of the project, which will place rap artists including Juicy J, Paul Wall, and over trap house music.

In the midst of his rapidly evolving career, Dainjazone will market his individual brand, Infinite Intelligence, which fosters his confidence that “you have it inside you to do whatever you want—that infinite wisdom, the power to be incredible and to be great,” he says.

With it, Dainjazone plans to create videos to post on his brand’s new website, which will also be launching this month. He explains, “I don’t want to post another video of me in the club pumping my fists… I want to bring my lifestyle into it.”

And what a lifestyle he leads. Read on to learn for a Q&A with DJ Dainjazone on how he keeps his day to day original and fresh—from his party secrets, to his style, to his name.

By AnnaMarie Houlis (@annamariehoulis)

LifestyleMirror: Why the name Dainjazone? DJ Dainjazone: When I was in college, I was a big fan of Big L, who’s a rapper, and he had a song called “Danger Zone.” So with that song, and with me wanting to be a battle DJ—the way the song was said, and rapped, and the hook was just captivating. It just had me in its palms. I thought it would be incredible if I was a battle DJ and my name was Dainjazone, so you goin’ into a battle with Dainjazone. I never became a battle DJ, but I still kept it.

LM: What makes you particularly dangerous, and why should other DJs step aside? DD: I’m actually a really nice guy… more of a safety zone. You can leave your girlfriend with me, I won’t cause any harm. I don’t drink. I stop at stop signs. I’m actually the opposite of a dangerous person. But you can say that I’m dangerous because I’m creeping up in the business and just a couple years ago I wasn’t doing anything. Now I’m in the biggest clubs around the world.

LM: How do you set yourself apart from the typical “Hollywood DJ,” succeeding in a field where so many others have failed? DD: A lot of DJs try emulating typical sounds. It’s just kind of played out… so when I was coming up, I wanted to create my own sound… It took a lot of studying, and a lot of research and traveling to really figure out the way I wanted to DJ and what my sound is.

LM: What are the necessities for throwing an awesome party? DD: Now a days you need an incredible light show…Aside from that, we have blow up stuffed animals, confetti cannons, mini-small cannons, we pass out glasses… The more toys people have the better the party atmosphere. And I like to think that we cultivated that.

LM: After touring six continents, give us your best travel tip. DD: Pack only stuff that you’re going to use… Check the weather so you know what you’re getting into… If you’re going for work and you may not have access to a washer and dryer, double up on wearing those underwear! If you can just shorten up on everything—travel size everything.

LM: What is one thing that you always bring? http://www.lifestylemirror.com/life/music/418639973/how-to-be-a-dj-dj-dainjazone-qa/ Page 2 of 5 DJ Dainjazone Q&A 10/14/14 9:27 PM

DD: I have to have a toothbrush, and with the extension of a toothbrush, is dental floss.

LM: Where is your favorite place to party—where you’ve had the most fun? DD: Vegas is the best, hands down. Outside of America, we’ve had a lot of fun in the French Riviera. Anywhere that is a vacation destination—those are the best places to party because people come with the right attitude. Australia… Oh my God, so much fun in Australia.

LM: What are some staples in your wardrobe? DD: Anytime you wear something you should always have a classy item on you, whether it’s a watch or a pair of shoes. But you don’t want to hit them with too much at once. You can wear something simple and have the freshest pair of kicks on that are in your closet… Whatever your staple is, you create it because it’s all about feeling good.

LM: Is there a quote or mantra by which you live? DD: I just tell myself “no excuses.” I started doing very well for myself and I was doing a lot of travelling back before I started touring with LMFAO and I said, “I don’t know how I’m going to do it, but I’m going to do it. I’m just going to put my head down and just barrel through everything—all of these walls that are holding me back.”

LM: What’s your favorite book? DD: I don’t have a favorite right now… I read Fifty Shades of Grey believe it or not.

LM: How did you like that? DD: There are a lot of answers to women in the Fifty Shades of Grey book. I read the first one —I didn’t read the second or third—but your questions will be answered.
