The label was made part of Fantasy Records in 1972. Since that time it has been used as a reissue label in addition to new jazz recordings. Milestone has also reissued many historic jazz recordings, including the Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings recordings that were originally made in the 1920’s by Richmond Indiana label Gennett Records.
