Probablemente no haya nin- gún personaje tan unido a un fenómeno como el de “la canción del verano” como él. A ver, repasemos: “El casatschok”, “El bimbó”, “Paloma blanca”, “Mi cafetal”, “El africano (mami, qué será lo que quie- re el negro)”, “El chiringuito”, “La barba- coa”, .. ¿Hay quién dé más? Seguramente no. Ya era hora, por tanto, de que Georgie Dann, que ha animado con sus canciones durante tantos años las verbenas lauren- tinas, actuara en carne mortal en las fies- tas de San Lorenzo. Nacido en París en 1940 (va camino ya, por tanto, de los se- tenta años), estudió en el Conservatorio y desde los años 60 desarrolló su trayecto- ria musical en España. Lo que poca gen- te sabe es que sufrió en varias ocasiones la censura franquista debido a sus bailes “provocativos” y sensuales. Con página tanto en la wikipedia como en la frikipe- dia, es un personaje imprescindible del verano español, cachondo y propenso a la autoparodia (¿se acuerdan del anun- cio del Polo Norte o de sus apariciones en “Crónicas marcianas”?), Georgie Dann reventará todas las previsiones y, a buen seguro, llenará hasta la bandera el Recin- to de Peñas con su divertido espectáculo liviano y con sus inevitables go-gos. El pub-rock, o rock cervecero, fue un movimiento que se dio en la Inglaterra de mediados de los años 70, que tuvo como principales defensores a grupos como Doctor Feelgood, Eddie & the Hot Rods, Ace o Ian Dury & the Bloc- kheads, y que, en gran medida, preludió el advenimiento del punk al evitar los largos y alambicados desarrollos instrumentales de los grupos del rock progresivo y de los dinosaurios del rock sinfónico, y apostar por una línea musical más directa y senci- lla. Sus fuentes principales eran el rhythm & blues, el soul y el rock & roll originario. Pues bien, dos iconos de aquel movimien- to del pub-rock, visitarán el Jai Alai en la última noche musical de las fiestas. Se tra- ta de Wilko Johnson y de The Blockheads. De verdadero nombre John Wilkinson, el guitarrista Wilko Johnson creó a principios de los años setenta el grupo Dr Feelgood, con el que publicó entre 1975 y 1977 discos clásicos como “Down by the jetty”, “Mal- practice” o “Stupidity”, que incluían temas míticos como “Roxette” y “Back in the nig- ht”. Después de abandonar el grupo, creó los Solid Senders y más tarde se unió a los Blockheads de Ian Dury, con los que siem- pre ha tenido una relación muy estrecha.
