2018 ANNUAL ANESTHESIA MEETING & WORKSHOPS

COMING TOGETHER: IMPROVING OUTCOMES AND DEVELOPING LEADERS JW MARRIOTT DESERT SPRINGS

MARCH 22-25 REGISTRATION 2018 csahq.org/cme (916) 290-5830 LETTER FROM THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS DIVISION

DEAR COLLEAGUES,

On behalf of the Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) Educational Programs Division, we are excited to invite you to join us in Palm Springs for the CSA 2018 Annual Anesthesia Meeting & Workshops, to be held March 22-25, 2018.

“COMING TOGETHER: IMPROVING OUTCOMES AND DEVELOPING LEADERS” is the theme that has guided us while developing the program. This year’s program will not only provide the tools needed to deliver high-quality patient care, but will also address how to shape anesthesiology care for the future. The program provides sessions grouped by specialty interest with expert speakers from throughout California and across the nation.

This upcoming 2018 program is shaped by the feedback from members and past CSA meeting attendees. CSA’s mission is to spark innovation and professional collaboration through education. We set out to emphasize the most positive aspects of CSA education—reflection on the ever-growing complexity of our patients, emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and delivering collaborative care with a multidisciplinary scientific approach.

The program starts on Thursday afternoon with three pre-conference workshops that will provide participants with hands-on, small group teaching in the following topics: • POCUS/TEE/Perioperative Ultrasound • Advanced Regional Anesthesia • Women in Leadership

All three workshops are designed to expand scope of practice, as well as foster the exchange of acquired skills amongst professionals in the given area. These workshops are limited in size, so please sign up early if you are interested.

The plenary lectures will be short, high-yield, and organized by specialty interest subjects within a theme reflecting challenges facing anesthesiology in the future. A panel discussion at the end of each module will promote interaction between attendees and speakers. In addition to the wide variety of clinical topics, there are special topics focused on new concepts of enhanced patient management after surgery. These include goal-directed fluid therapy and blood management, opposite sides of evidence based medicine, patient safety, the digital future of perioperative medicine, and legislative challenges in Anesthesia care, all of which will emphasize the anesthesiologist’s role in enhancing the quality of patient care.

Concurrently, the program will host small group Problem-Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs) featuring some of the same expert faculty, but focusing on case-based and practical take-home points.

One of the most exciting highlights of this meeting will be the launch of the first afternoon dedicated to Practice Management sessions.

We have again this year the annual Anesthesia Abstract Presentations in general session. The abstracts will be presented as oral and visual presentations for CME credit. This will be an excellent opportunity to share recent and relatively unknown research with your fellow colleagues and peers!

The 2018 CSA annual meeting is set to be both an excellent educational experience for anesthesiologists, as well as an opportunity to network with peers in our scientific community. We look forward seeing you all in Palm Springs / Palm Desert, California.

Shalini S. Shah, MD John G. Brock-Utne, MD, PhD Program Chair, CSA Associate Scientific Program Chair
