This year’s meeting — focused on innovations in Medicaid in this era of change and health reform — features many nationally recognized speakers who will share with us their expertise in health care and politics. This year’s conference sets the tone for the new frontier in Medicaid managed care. We are proud to present such nationally well-known speakers, including John Gorman, President and CEO of the Gorman Health Group, and traditionally one of our most popular speakers annually; David Plouffe, the campaign manager for President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, and in the President’s own words, the “unsung hero” of the campaign; Mark Shields, a nationally known columnist and commentator; nationally-known Medicaid expert Vernon Smith, a principal of Health Management Associates; former HHS Secretary and Governor Tommy Thompson; and former U.S. Congresswoman Heather Wilson, who served as a Congressional leader on Medicaid issues. Neustadt, Director, 1966-1971 The urge to found an Institute of Politics had little to do with Harvard. It came, rather, from a natural concern of President Kennedy's family and friends after his death. The JFK library, al­ ready planned to house his presidential papers, was also to have been a headquarters for him when he retired from the Presidency. Now it would be not a living center focussed on him, active in the present, facing the future, but instead only an archive and museum faced to­ ward the past. The Institute was somehow to provide the living ele­ ment in what might otherwise soon turn into a "dead" memorial. Nathan Pusey, at the time Harvard's President, then took an initiative with Robert Kennedy, proposing that the Institute be made a permanent part of Harvard's Graduate School of Public Administra­ tion. The School—uniquely among Harvard's several parts—would be named for an individual, John F. Kennedy. Robert Kennedy ac­ cepted; these two things were done. The Kennedy Library Corpora­ tion, a fund-raising body charged to build the Library, contributed endowment for an Institute at Harvard. The University renamed its School the John Fitzgerald Kennedy School of Government, and created within it the Institute of Politics.

During this four day gathering of educators, policy makers, religious and lay people, and social justice advocates from all over the world, the group lobbied Congress on Capitol Hill, learned about the extensive civic engagement and advocacy work being done by agencies, academics, and workers of all stripes for the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, participated in policy sessions, plenary discussions, and dialogues about issues facing the world and Church today, and reflected on how the two pillars of the social teaching of the Church- justice and charity- are lived out on Dayton's own campus, in the city of Dayton, and beyond. Hitlin, B.A. Washington, D.C. April 25, 2005 A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF TELEVISION POLITICAL PUNDITS Paul M. Hitlin, B.A. Thesis Advisor: Diana Owen, Ph.D. ABSTRACT Following the conclusion of the first 2004 presidential debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry, television political pundits immediately began to assess the performances of each candidate. Two particular elements of the debate were hardly mentioned, but became significant topics of discussion within a few days: Kerry’s use of the term “global test” and Bush’s physical appearance. Television pundits played a key role in framing these two elements as historical memories that became the centerpieces of subsequent conversations about the event. This paper examines the institution of the television pundit and the role they play in shaping political discourse. I propose that during the first hours of television coverage after the event, there would be a variation of discussions among pundits on different networks. Then over the next five days, the tone of discussions and topics would converge as pundits began to reflect the opinions expressed by those on other channels. To test these hypotheses, I first provided a definition of the term “pundit” and then discussed the history and influences that shape the modern occupation. Next, I conducted a content analysis of the statements made on 42 talk shows that appeared across six networks during the six days following the debate.

In this new position, Chalian will direct the NewsHour’s political coverage across all broadcast and digital platforms. In addition to campaign politics, Chalian will manage the editorial content from the NewsHour’s congressional, White House, and Supreme Court beats. Administration of the press galleries shall be vested in a Standing Committee of Cor- respondents elected by accredited members of the Galleries. The Committee shall consist of five persons elected to serve for terms of two years. Provided, however, that at the election in January 1951, the three candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for two years and the remaining two for one year. Thereafter, three members shall be elected in odd-numbered years and two in even-numbered years. Elections shall be held in January. The Committee shall elect its own chairman and secretary. Vacancies on the Committee shall be filled by special election to be called by the Standing Committee. 2.
