    DELHI SAHITYA AKADEMI TRANSLATION PRIZE PRESENTATION September 4-6, 2015, Dibrugarh ahitya Akademi organized its Translation Prize, 2014 at the Dibrugarh University premises on September 4-6, 2015. Prizes were presented on 4th, Translators’ Meet was held on 5th and Abhivyakti was held on S5th and 6th. Winners of Translation Prize with Ms. Pratibha Ray, Chief Guest, President and Secretary of Sahitya Akademi On 4th September, the first day of the event started at 5 pm at the Rang Ghar auditorium in Dibrugarh University. The Translation Prize, 2014 was held on the first day itself, where twenty four writers were awarded the Translation Prizes in the respective languages they have translated the literature into. Dr Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari, President, Sahitya Akademi, Eminent Odia writer Pratibha Ray was the chief guest, Guest of Honor Dr. Alak Kr Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University and Dr K. Sreenivasarao were present to grace the occasion. After the dignitaries addressed the gathering, the translation prizes were presented to the respective winners. The twenty four awardees were felicitated by a plaque, gamocha (a piece of cloth of utmost respect in the Assamese culture) and a prize of Rs.50, 000. The names of the twenty four winners of the translation prizes are • Bipul Deori won the Translation Prize in Assamese. • Benoy Kumar Mahanta won the Translation Prize in Bengali. • Surath Narzary won the Translation Prize in Bodo. • Yashpal ‘Nirmal’ won the Translation Prize in Dogri • Padmini Rajappa won the Translation Prize in English SAHITYA AKADEMI NEW S LETTER 1 DELHI • (Late) Nagindas Jivanlal Shah won the Translation Prize in Gujarati.

    INTERNATIONAL SUFI FESTIVAL AMRITSAR OCTOBER 20TH AND 21ST, 2012 The strength of Sufism is in its offering of one's complete self: the body, the heart, the mind, the soul and the conscience. Through this complete surrender emerges the strength of unity, of power, of being, and of embracing. In this mastery and slavery is hidden the control of the entire universe because it is the outcome of love for Almighty, and all His creation; love that transverses all religions and beliefs, and is larger and more profound than any doctrine or faith. The reason behind holding an International Sufi Festival in Amritsar is that it is perhaps the only city that has been founded by the Fourth Sikh Guru; it is the seat of Sikhism which has its very roots in Sufism. The Foundation of the Golden Temple was laid by the Sufi Saint Saeen Mian Mir who was invited from Lahore. Its holy Book: The Guru Granth Sahab includes couplets and verses by great sufi saints like Baba Farid and Kabir, and the essence of this city is secular, and one of mutual co-existence and plurality. In this city, a visit to the Darbar Sahab at the Golden Temple, one can feel the reconciliation of opposites: the outer and the inner, the material and the spiritual, the finite and the infinite, the here and the hereafter, the human and the divine. Here one can understand why 'Sufi Tradition' has the capacity to bring and bind people together, generate peaceful relations among all humans, and eliminate the centuries old antagonism that one community has been holding against other, and transcends the caste distinctions.

He served as editor of several well- known literary and news magazines, like Illustrated Weekly of India, major newspapers, including Hindustan Times. Reputed Journalist, fiction writer, author of 'Train to Pakistan', historian of the Sikh Community, and translator of Urdu and Punjabi literature, Khushwant is a household name. Letters with just his name, with 'India' underneath, reaches his doorsteps. Kushwant's faith in the Indian political system was shaken by events such as massacre of Sikhs that followed Indira Gandhi's assassination. But he has remained resolutely positive on the promise of Indian democracy, and worked via 'Citizen's Justice Committee' floated by H.S. Phoolka of Delhi who is a Senior Advocate Supreme Court.
