He was the last Emperor of India, and the first Head of the Commonwealth. He served in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force during World War I, and after the war took on the usual round of public engagements. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923, and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret. George's elder brother ascended the throne as Edward VIII on the death of their father in 1936. However, less than a year later Edward revealed his desire to marry the divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson. British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin advised Edward that for political and Formal portrait, c. 1940–46 religious reasons he could not marry Mrs Simpson and remain king. • Bermuda Celebrating the 60Th Anniversary of the Coronation of H.M
BERMUDA CELEBRATING THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CORONATION OF H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH II Following on from the issue commemorating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Bermuda Post Office is now releasing a very special series of stamps to celebrate the next milestone in Her Majesty’s life which is the 60th Anniversary of her Coronation. The new set of commemorative stamps consist of five new stamps each showing items and packaging released during the reigns of Victoria, Edward VII, George V, George VI and Elizabeth II all based on images supplied by Robert Opie. Robert is known worldwide as a collector of Advertising Memorabilia and the curator of Opie’s Museum of Memories which contains tens of thousands of examples of advertising and packaging material. The five stamps are produced in sheetlets of eight stamps with a label and a decorative border showing a number of contemporary examples taken from the Robert Opie Collection. Additionally, this commemorative series includes a souvenir sheet containing a single $2.50 stamp bearing an official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Victoria (10c) was born at Kensington Palace, London, on 24 May 1819. Her father died shortly after her birth and she became heir to the throne. On William IV’s death in 1837, she became Queen at the age of 18 and a year later in 1838 was crowned. Queen Victoria is associated with Britain’s great age of industrial expansion, economic progress and, especially, empire. At her death, it was said, Britain had a worldwide empire on which the sun never set.

Abstract For many years the notion of Princess Alexandra of Denmark’s political sympathy with Ireland has persisted among her biographers, while historians have been much more reserved in their endorsement and aware that the historical basis for Alexandra’s image as a supporter of Ireland is very tenuous. Nevertheless, Alexandra’s supposed feelings toward Ireland have never been discussed in-depth and have rather been taken for granted as having been useful to her husband for a time. The origin of this affinity has never been fully explained, short of suppositions concerning her political sensibilities and similarities between Denmark and Ireland.

  • Memories of the House of Este in England
THE INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION AND ASSOCIATION ON NOBILITY (TICAN) Memories of the House of Este in England The Royal House of Windsor, in their veins runs the blood of the oldest Italian Dynasty Carmelo Currò Troiano & Don Salvatore Ferdinando Antonio Caputo (George, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, Prince-Elector of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick. ca. 1714, the year of his succession, by Sir Godfrey Kneller) Memories of the House of Este in England The Este Royal Family still reigns, and with the world's most famous monarchy. It reigns under another name, because now is called Windsor. In their veins, however, runs the blood of the oldest Italian Dynasty. Among the many states of late medieval Italy, one stands out for its unfamiliarity to an English audience and for its neglect in historical research: that of the Este family, lords (later Dukes) of the cities of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio in northern Italy. Welf IV d'Este, son of Alberto Azzo II, moved to Germany, first to Carinthia and then to Bavaria, giving rise to one of the most important families in European history, the Guelphs. This in turn ultimately led to the ascension to the English throne in 1714 with George I of England. The Este constituted, with the Savoy, the longest Italian family dynastic among the various lordships that from the Middle Ages to the Risorgimento (The Resurgence) dominated the small states that made up the boot of Italy controlled for long periods a portion that practically reached from the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea until the Republic of Lucca, acting as cushion between the states of the Church and those in the north, Venice, Mantua and Milan.
