Welcome elcome to the 17th Annual Nederland Music and Arts Festival! We like to call it Colorado’s most intimate music festival because spectators are never more than 200 feet from the Wstage and anyone can get right up to the front and see the artists’ faces and fi ngers. No Jumbotron needed! There is room to dance and hula-hoop or just lay back and look at the sky and enjoy the wonderful music. We have some great artist booths this year and a few spe- cial new sponsors. There are several yummy choices for delectable dinners, three breweries, a meadery, and a winery to tempt your taste buds. Our long-time sponsor Indian Peaks Spring Water has all the wonderful water you need (bring your water bottle!) so make sure to stay hydrated while having fun! If you have little ones with you, make sure you don’t miss our alt special kid’s tent with face painting and fun stuff to eW James D do while at the fest. We have a fantastic mix of music for you this year, so whether you want to dance your days and nights away or just sit back and relax, we’ve got a fantastic weekend for you! — The NedFest Staff he Peak to Peak Music Education Association formed in 2011 Tfollowing the death of NedFest founder Michigan Mike to con- tinue the festival and use its resources to support music education programs for local kids. • 2017 High Sierra Music Festival Program
WELCOME! Festivarians, music lovers, friends old and new... WELCOME to the 27th version of our annual get-together! This year, we can’t help but look back 50 years to the Summer of Love, the summer of 1967, a year that brought us the Monterey Pop Festival (with such performers as Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin and The Grateful Dead) which became an inspiration and template for future music festivals like the one you find yourself at right now. But the hippies of that era would likely refer to what’s going on in the political climate of these United States now as a “bad trip” with the old adage “the more things change, the more they stay the same” coming back into play. Here we are in 2017 with so many of the rights and freedoms that were fought long and hard for over the past 50 years being challenged, reinterpreted or revoked seemingly at warp speed. It’s high time to embrace the two basic tenets of the counterculture movement. First is PEACE. PEACE for your fellow human, PEACE within and PEACE for our planet. The second tenet brings a song to mind - and while the Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band gets all the attention on its 50th anniversary, it’s the final track on their Magical Mystery Tour album (which came out later the same year) that contains the most apropos song for these times. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE. LOVE more, fear less. LOVE is always our answer. Come back to LOVE.

Issue 134 APRIL 12TH, 2021 With Copper’s new format, long “Opening Salvo” intros take up a lot of space when viewed on a phone, so we’ll keep them short from now on. This line from Gary Wilson from his song “I Wanna Take You On A Sea Cruise” seems appropriate for the times: “Hey baby, there’s only two more days till tomorrow!” In this issue: Anne E. Johnson offers retrospectives on cinematic storyteller Randy Newman and on troubadours ancient and modern. Tom Gibbs reviews new releases from Frank Zappa, Charles Lloyd and Dr. Lonnie Smith. J.I.
