12-15 September, Treffen Banff

The members of the Wild Rose Region and the Treffen North America staff invite you to attend Treffen Banff in the breathtaking Canadian Rockies within Banff National Park over September 12 – 15, 2018.

The headquarters hotel for this event is the historic Fairmont Banff Springs, a landmark in the picturesque alpine town of Banff, Alberta. Built during the 19th century as one of Canada’s grand railway hotels, the Fairmont Banff Springs is known as Canada’s “Castle in the Rockies” and has been providing legendary hospitality to their guests for more than 125 years.

The primary reason for touring this fairytale Canadian oasis is the awe-inspiring mountain vistas and scenic drives throughout Banff National Park. Driving routes like the world-famous Icefields Parkway offer access to dizzying mountains, hanging lakes and glaciers. And be sure to watch for elusive wildlife along the way as you never know when a curious elk might wander onto the road.

THIS Friday, 24 August 2018, Werks Reunion Monterey

Werks Reunion was created by the Porsche Club of America as an event to celebrate both the Porsche marque as well as the camaraderie of being an enthusiast. Spectators are welcome to attend Werks Reunion Monterey free of charge. No registration is needed.

It’s at Corral de Tierra Country Club, 81 Corral De Tierra Rd, Salinas, CA 9390

Registration: Cars entered in Porsche Corral Display or the Porsche Judged Field must register. Registration opened Wednesday, 9 May 2018 at motorsportreg.com.

Porsche Racer Hurley Heywood (and book) in Monterey

International racing legend and author/photographer Sean Cridland will be making two appearances with Hunziker during Monterey Car Week.

On Friday, August 24, you will be able to meet Hurley at the Hunziker stand at the PCA Werks Reunion.

Then on Saturday morning, August 25, Hurely will be signing at the Hunziker stand at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

Their book, HURLEY: From the Beginning will be available for purchase at both locations. We will also be giving away Hurley Haywood hero cards, featuring original Hunziker artwork!

THIS Friday, 24 August 2018, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering

The Quail has announced that two of its classes will celebrate Porsche:

 Celebrating 70 years of the Iconic Porsche 356  The Alois Ruf Reunion4

4 Technically, RUF cars have RUF Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), but they’re pretty much Porsches.

sgvr.pca.org 24 of 73 facebook.com/PCA-SGVR San Gabriel Valley Region PCA Zone 8 2014 Region of the Year Weekly Update 21 August 2018

Tickets for The Quail on August 24, 2018 were allocated through an online lottery system in February of 2018.

The only ticket options available, at this time, are The Quail Helicopter Ticket ($ 4,000) or The Quail Charitable Patron Ticket ($ 2,500) click here. One can also request a place on the waitlist.

23-26 August 2018, Porsche Club of America—Rolex Monterey Car Corral

At most Monterey Car Week events, and especially at Laguna Seca, preferred parking is worth it!

The PCA Car Corral is limited to 200 cars, PORSCHES ONLY5. And its first come, first served so buy your corral passes now. But if you miss out on a Corral pass, come by our tent anyway and visit your friends. All you need is either your PCA Membership card or a Porsche key to enter the tent.

A PCA Corral Pass is $ 65.00 per car. If you wish a catered lunch, the price is $ 30.00 per person. Lunch is Saturday only.

Remember that a corral pass is not a race ticket: buy race tickets from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca www.weathertechraceway.com/ticket-information

Registration: Registration opened at noon, Wednesday, 9 May 2018 at www.motorsportreg.com/events/porsche- club-of-america-rolex-monterey-car-corral-weathertech-raceway-pca-778388

Monterey Recommendations:

If you visit Canepa in Scotts Valley, consider dining at Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing.

Paris Bakery in Monterey (near Bank of America) is a tasty (but not necessarily health-conscious) place to start the day.

5 As of 31 July 2018 there were 146 Porsches (and one Ferrari, but he’s driving a Porsche) registered for the corral.

Hapeville hotel diners dissed; Porsche manager fired

Note: The Solis Hotel is located at 2 Porsche Dr, Atlanta, GA 30354

From South Metro Neighbor, by Noreen Cochran, 16 August 2018

A view of the eighth-floor rooftop lounge at the Solís Two Porsche Drive in Hapeville.

A birthday party turned contentious at a Hapeville hotel recently caused controversy.

Videos of the encounter, which contain explicit language, made the rounds of social media.

Kodili Okechukwu said she and her friends were celebrating a birthday on the rooftop terrace at the Solis Two Porsche Drive on Aug. 9, “actually raving to each other” about their discovery of the location.

“Then some woman comes and sat down at our table with a friend. We asked her if she was okay and continued our conversation thinking that she would eventually realize she was confused and leave,” Okechukwu said. “After a few minutes, she was still sitting.”

The woman, whom Okechukwu identified later as Sonya Pate, a Porsche employee, allegedly made rude comments.

The situation escalated, Okechukwu said, when the party asked the restaurant manager for help.

“One of my friends tapped the manager on his shoulders and he immediately became defensive and threatened to call security and have us thrown out,” Okechukwu said. sgvr.pca.org 61 of 73 facebook.com/PCA-SGVR San Gabriel Valley Region PCA Zone 8 2014 Region of the Year Weekly Update 21 August 2018

She said they were “basically ushered out of the location” while the then-unknown woman remained.

The footage, however, depicts the party and Pate leaving voluntarily.

Hotel spokesman Andy McGowan said the celebrants were not asked to leave the hotel and that hotel General Manager Mike Sutter apologized personally to the guest of honor and his girlfriend for the incident Aug. 11.

Hotel spokeswoman Sarah Horton said “a resolution has occurred.”

But Okechukwu said she has been left out in the cold.

“There was no resolution reached,” she said. “I called the hotel on Monday (Aug. 13), left my name and number and was told that the GM ‘really wanted to speak with me’ (but) no one ever returned my call.”

Okechukwu said “the birthday boy” and his girlfriend, who wish to remain anonymous, received verbal acknowledgement of the hotel’s transgression.

“Yet in the statement, they take no responsibility,” she said about an Aug. 13 Facebook post. “The couple did not accept a single apology and instead insisted that the event was extremely traumatic.”

The hotel posted that its mission is to “provide welcoming hospitality to all guests,” without prioritizing any one over another.

It reported the apology and said the patrons were not asked to leave.

Porsche posted to its Twitter feed Aug. 14 that it regretted to learn about the incident, which occurred next to its Porsche Cars North America headquarters.

“We are especially sorry it involved a woman associated with a Porsche dealer,” the Tweet read.

Pate had been an employee of Porsche of Annapolis, Maryland.

The dealership posted to Facebook on Aug. 14 that it had fired her.

“Porsche of Annapolis was saddened and sorry to hear about the incident at an Atlanta hotel involving one of our employees,” the post read. “After investigation, we have made our decision and terminated that person’s employment.”

Her LinkedIn account, now deactivated, listed her as a customer experience manager.

Pate could not be reached for comment before press time.

Fernando Alonso, Toyota Win WEC Race at Silverstone Then Gets Disqualified

Ruling gives No. 3 Rebellion R13 Gibson of Mathias Beche, Thomas Laurent and Gustavo Menezes the overall win

From AutoWeek, August 19, 2018

Toyota was disqualified from first and second positions in Sunday’s Silverstone round of the World Endurance Championship.

The two Toyota TS050 HYBRIDs were excluded from the results of Sunday's Silverstone 6 Hours after the front section of the underfloor skid-block on each car failed the deflection test in post-race technical checks.

The disqualification promotes the first of the non-hybrid privateer LMP1 contenders, the #3 Rebellion- Gibson R-13 shared by Gustavo Menezez, Thomas Laurent and Mathias Beche to the victory. The second Rebellion entry moves up to second and the best of the SMP Racing team's AER-powered BR Engineering BR1 chassis takes the final spot on the podium.

Toyota has already confirmed it intention to appeal the decision.

The maximum deflection allowed is 5mm when the skid-block or plank undergoes a 2500 Newton meter8 load. The plank on the winning Toyota shared by Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki

8 2,500 Newton meters = 1,843.96 Foot pounds sgvr.pca.org 68 of 73 facebook.com/PCA-SGVR San Gabriel Valley Region PCA Zone 8 2014 Region of the Year Weekly Update 21 August 2018

Nakajima deflected by 9mm. while that of the second-placed sister car driven by Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and Jose Maria Lopez deflected by 6mm on one side and 8mm on the other.

Toyota Gazoo Racing's representative in scrutineering, LMP1 project leader John Litjens, argued that the irregularity must have been caused by the cars running off track and damaging the plank mountings. The stewards ruled that the design of the car must be able to withstand the rigors of a six-hour race.

Ferrari prevailed in a thrilling battle in GTE Pro with the factory AF Corse entry shared by James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi. The Ferrari 488 GTE wasn't the fastest car in class, but a creative fuel strategy by the team allowed it to benefit from an early full course yellow virtual safety car.

Calado and Pier Guidi ended up prevailing by 14 seconds over the factory Porsche 911 RSR driven by Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz, which came through from 10th position in class after qualifying. The Ganassi Ford GT shared by Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell passed the second Porsche, shared by Michael Christensen and Kevin Estre in the closing stages to take third position.

That became second when the Bruni/Lietz Porsche was thrown out in postrace tech for a ride height infringement.

The Ford had the edge on pace on its rivals around Silverstone, but ultimately lost the victory when it pitted both its cars when the only safety car period came to an end on half distance. The other class frontrunners then gained when another safety car of the virtual kind followed shortly afterward, and they were able to make their stops under yellow-flag conditions.

The Jota-run Jackie Chan DC Racing squad finished one-two in LMP2 with its pair of ORECA-Gibson 07s. Ho-Pin Tung, Stephane Richelmi and Gabriel Aubry triumphed by just under two seconds. The TDS

Racing ORECA of Loic Duval, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Francois Perrodo had the pace to win but sustained a front left upright failure.

The GTE Am division was won by the Dempsey Proton Porsche 911 RSR shared by Christian Reid, Julien Andlauer and Matt Campbell.
