Greater Richmond Sailing Association’s Sail Programs mission statement: 1. Promote the sport of sailing through our instruction and provide outreach to the surrounding community. 2. Provide an invaluable resource to the growth of the club through fostering the sport through Sail Programs. 3. Instill the love of sailing to our campers and students and make every sailor we work with a better sailor.

Requirements: Must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the start of the program. Must have US Sailing Level I certification and current CPR/First Aid certifications. Must possess strong problem solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs depending on weather, number of students, number of boats, etc. Must have a working knowledge of Optimist, Sunfish, Flying Scot and C420 rigging and sailing. Must work well with both children (age 8-17) and adults. Must be a self-motivated team player, good judgment, and a positive attitude.

Duties:  Sailing instruction in Optimist, Sunfish, Flying Scot and C420 and other dinghy classes for both you and adult courses.  Aid in safety and boat handling with Sailing Instructors to both adults and children.  Assist the Sail Programs Director and Sailing Instructors in maintaining a camp that meets the standards outlined by Greater Richmond Sailing Association.  Follow instructions given by Sailing Instructions for lesson plans for a variety of skill levels and changing weather conditions.  Enforcing safety guidelines and procedures at all times.  Physically assist students in launching, rigging, and storing boats.  Be a responsible, reliable, enthusiastic sailor and instructor with good judgment and leadership skills. Act as an ambassador for GRSA.  Take responsibility for ensuring a safe, consistent, organized, and educational waterfront and fleet.  Preform seamanship tasks to include keeping boats, equipment, and storage facility in good repair, clean, and neat.  Aid in preparation planning and daily review and documentation of program.  Drive and motivate participation in GRSA’s sail program activities.  Other responsibilities considered necessary to meet the goals of Greater Richmond Sailing Association.

Must possess strong problem solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs depending on weather, number of students, number of boats, etc. Must have a knowledge of Optimist, Sunfish, Flying Scot, and C420 rigging and sailing. Must work well with both children (age 8-17) and adults. Previous experience instructing in summer camps and commitment to teaching you and adults. Must be a self-motivated team player, good judgment, and a positive attitude.
