STILLWATER, Okla. –October is 4-H month, and 4-H’ers across Oklahoma will be celebrating by participating in many activities throughout the month. This is an outstanding opportunity to get to know 4-H whether again or for the first time.

The face of 4-H has changed; no longer is the organization just for the rural youth of Oklahoma. Today, 4-H is for everyone. Do you know any Oklahoma youth ages 5 to 19? Do you know someone that would like to make a difference in his or her community? Then you know someone who would benefit from the 4-H program.

Oklahoma 4-H is a special combination of youth who are eager to learn life skills that will prepare them for their future and adults who want to build a community full of strong, active and responsible citizens.

4-H teaches youth life skills such as decision-making, goal setting, leadership and citizenship, just to name a few. It welcomes all young people to participate in a “learn-by-doing” environment where they are able to actively participate in hands-on experiences and make a lasting impact in their communities.

The 4-H program is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and can be found in more than 3,000 counties nationwide and more than 60 countries around the world. 4-H reaches more than six million youth every year.

Principal funding comes from county, state and federal public sources and private funders. It is the only youth program that is supported by United States Department of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Services, land-grant universities, state and local governments and as well as private partners.

“4-H Month is a wonderful time to focus on the exciting opportunities that Oklahoma 4-H can bring to you, your children, your family and your community,” said Dr. Charles Cox, Extension Specialist and 4-H Program Leader.
