General News for the Entire Area

I will be out of town April 25 – 30, and then again leaving on May 3 (after workshop) to return on the 5th.

2014’S AREA CAPTAIN CHALLENGE OUTSTANDING!!! 7 of our chapters reported Challenge results for March. Only 2 of them did not have a net loss for the month, but those chapters’ net gain was less than ½ pound each.

There are 117 members the 7 reporting chapters. 34 of the members are KOPS. The net loss for all 7 was 62.5. 25 of the KOPS were at or below goal for the entire month.

PUBLICITY VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED I ‘m still looking for one (or a member and a friend) from each section of my area: Antelope Valley; Santa Clarita/San Fernando Valley and San Gabriel Valley to set aside a few minutes a month for hanging posters and dropping off brochures to help get the good news about TOPS out to the general public. You know how TOPS has helped you – even if that help has been to keep you from gaining the weight you know you would have gained if you were not being held accountable

Page 2 to your weekly meetings. The poster or brochure you place could be the very message that speaks to someone and convinces them that TOPS is the place they need to be. Please call or email me if you are interested.

SRD SRD will be held at the Airport Double Tree Inn in Ontario on May 29-31, 2014. 04.15.14 Deadline for ALL Event participation forms - KOPS Session (for all KOPS); Award Session (for State Winners); Fun Night (Before & After Parade, Poster & Banner Parade, Fun Night Entertainment); SRD Tea Happening (to participate as a TEA Hostess or in the Costume Parade at the Tea); Color Guard (for TOPS members who have served for any length of time in any branch of the military ); SRD Raffle Items 05.05.14 Deadline to register to attend SRD and to make hotel reservations. Please refer to your SRD packet for the details for all of the items listed above.

SUMMER FUN DAY

CA572, Quartz Hill is inquiring with their meeting place at Mayflower Gardens about the possibility of hosting our Summer Fun Day on August 23, 2014. Our theme for this event will be “A Day at the Beach”. Aside from giving me the honor of recognizing my members for their accomplishments, these events are an opportunity for us all to participate in some gentle, fun activities; create a craft project that will remind us of the day’s discussion topic/learning objective. Please feel free to share your ideas for activities, craft project and discussion topic/learning objective related to the theme.

KOPS Society Meeting: 04.19.14 - at Marie Callender’s, 19310 Business Center Dr., Northridge CA 91324 April Showers/May Flowers Theme. 11:00 AM arrival & fellowship, meeting begins at 11:30 AM. The meeting will be hosted by CA0073, Canoga Park. Gwen Henry of CA2185 will be our Spotlight KOPS. We will have a “Spring Bonnet” parade & judging.

Area Walk – Save the Date: The 2014 Antelope Valley Area Walk is scheduled for November 8, 2014 I have spoken with the nice folks at the City of Lancaster offices and they have not been able to find a park that meets our needs. Aside from the roughness of the walking path, Apollo park was absolutely perfect. Here is a list of the things a park must have if we are to consider it as a location for our Area Walk:  The walking path must be a mile or more in length (we would prefer it to be a concrete path – or something that is navigable for our members who use walkers  We must have a covered picnic area with at least 4 – 6 tables.  There must be restroom facilities relatively close to the picnic area  The picnic area must be within a short distance from the parking area

I will need to reserve an area for our walk by May 8, 2014. So, if we don’t come up with something more suitable before then, I will reserve Apollo Park and will find other ways to “exercise” our “walker team”.

Fun Day:

Our Summer Fun Day on August 9, 2014 at the New Hope Community Church at 10438 Oro Vista Street in Sunland. This will be a new location for us. Page 6 I’m assuming – since my email inbox wasn’t full and running over – nor were the lots of messages on the voice mail…..that there is no interest from the San Gabriel Valley in hosting a Fun Shop. That’s OK; I will continue to send invitations for the one here in the San Fernando Valley to your chapters. Perhaps you will decide to wander on down this way some time and pay us a visit. You are always welcome to “come on in, sit on down and have yourself a good ole time”

I have checked into using Bonelli Park in San Dimas for our walk. I won’t be able to go check it out until mid-May. If I plan on getting there at the crack of dawn, we won’t have to pay for a reservation, but there is a $10.00 per car daily use fee. So, perhaps those who are planning to attend the walk can gather at your meeting places and bring as few cars as possible. We sell tickets – like 50/50, only instead of drawing 1 ticket to be the winner of half the money, we would split the half between all the drivers so they could recoup part of their $10.00.

If anyone has any other ideas for a park location with the following amenities, please feel free to call or email me.
