Title of Post: Violence Against Women Development Officer

Main Purpose of post: To support the development of the Church of Scotland’s strategy in Tackling Violence Against Women & Gender Justice; to assume the lead role in the implementation of the strategy; and to develop a framework for effective future development and delivery.

Main duties:

Policy . To lead on the coordination and implementation of the Church of Scotland’s Violence Against Women (VAW) strategy

. To ensure awareness of the wider policy context of Tackling Violence Against Women & Gender Justice within the Church and to coordinate the Church’s engagement with wider policy development at a national level.

Partnership . To represent the VAW Task Group and the Church of Scotland at external events, participate in appropriate forums and develop partnerships with other key agencies and stakeholders.

Integrated Approach . To work closely with key staff across the Councils and departments of the Church to raise awareness of the issues of Violence Against Women & Gender Justice and how these can be most effectively addressed and disseminated at national, regional and local levels.

. To promote and ensure effective collaboration and coordination around core areas of work, including gender justice, domestic abuse and zero tolerance to violence against women in the workplace. . To coordinate the development of a long-term strategy, including the identification of funding and resources, to ensure the long-term delivery of the Church’s work in addressing Violence Against Women & Gender Justice.

Training  To develop and coordinate the production of training resources on issues of Violence Against Women and Gender Justice.

 To promote the delivery of these resources across the Church, including at Presbytery, ministerial and congregational levels.

Communication & Publicity . To work with the Church’s Communications Department in selecting appropriate communication tools and channels to engage a variety of different audiences including use of social media, preparing and presenting presentations and briefing key staff and leadership.

Other . To evaluate activity being undertaken and regularly report to the Church & Society Council on the progress of the project and the impact of the Church of Scotland work in this area.

 The salary for this post is £25,948 to £28,712 per annum pro rata.

 This is a fixed term appointment of 1 year duration.

 Working 25 hours per week, the hours of work for this post are to be agreed. With occasional attendance in the evening and weekends at meetings and conferences outwith the office as required. A system of flexi time applies to this post.

 The post is based in Edinburgh at the Church Offices at 121 George Street.

 There are 26 days pro rata annual paid leave in each full holiday year which runs from 1 Jan to 31 Dec. Entitlement is based on full weeks worked. This provision increases to 31 days pro rata after 5 years service. There are also 9 statutory holidays – 3 of which are floating days.

 In order to comply with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, the successful candidate, will be asked to provide document(s) confirming their eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.

 The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a pension scheme.
