Rev 7/14 CWCCA SUPPORTED APPLICATION RULES AND GUIDELINES

A supported show should only be one step down from a regional specialty. It should include a judge who has excellent knowledge of the breed, a breeder's education program and hopefully a large, quality entry. A supported show should highlight our breed at an all-breed show.

PROCEDURE

1. download application form from CWCCA website, fill it out and send it in to Michele Neubauer at least 6 mo. in advance. 2. SSC will acknowledge your application 3. application will be reviewed by SSC; you will be contacted if there any questions about the judge or breeder's education program 4. approval or disapproval will be given within 2 weeks 5. if approved, the SSC will contact AKC to submit name of sweepstakes judge

THE JUDGE The judge should preferably be a breeder judge or breed specialist. At minimum it should be someone who loves the breed, knows the standard and has proven him/her self to be knowledgeable. He/she should not be just a name on the panel of the all-breed show.

It is possible to work with the all-breed club. Many, if asked, will hire a judge for $3/dog. It is the applicant's responsibility - with any needed help from the SSC - to seek out someone who would come for $3/dog and submit that name to the all breed club.

Many clubs have their panel set a year or more in advance. If the applicant is unfamiliar with the judges on the list, the applicant should request help from the SSC for suggestions. The SSC will work with judges education in determining the best possible choice. A supported entry may be denied due to lack of approved judge.

THE ENTRY Be a salesman! Encourage people to come to your supported show. Offer trophies; plan a luncheon at the show or dinner after the show at a convenient restaurant. Make announcements on SC-L; make it sound special. Suggest everyone stay at a particular hotel and reserve a block of rooms.

BREEDERS ED Enlist the help of a breed mentor (note -mentors names are not listed on JE and this would help people who did not know someone in their area) in your area or one who may be coming to the show. Contact breeder's education for presentation/seminar ideas. A simple round table discussion on a specific topic can bring people together to learn from each other.

The key is planning for everything in advance. Be willing to work with the KC, especially if you are not a member. If they see you are willing to help out, they may be more willing to give you at least some of what you have asked for.

Members of the SSC are only a phone call or email away. They can help guide you through the process.

Rev 7/14 OTHER NOTES:

You must submit a letter from show giving club acknowledging their approval of the CWCCA holding a supported show.

A letter of welcome and a copy of the breed standard plus an introduction to the sweepstakes judge (if applicable) will be sent to the individual judging the supported entry.

Results must be sent to the SSC within 2 weeks after the show to be posted on the CWCCA website and published in the newsletter.
