The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. Chair Merlyn Snow welcomed all of the guests.

Minutes: The minutes of the April 16, 2010 meeting were circulated. It was Moved by: Les Mahon Seconded by: Harve Pinkerton That we accept the minutes of April 16, 2010 as presented. Carried.

Deputations: Shelly Rahme was introduced and asked to speak with regards to the Near North Locavores. Members of CAEDA asked what the word Locavore referred to and Ms. Rahme answered that it means Local consumer of food. Ms Rahme discussed the following items: working with North Bay Farmers Market; not for profit corporation; promoting food sustainability; there is a growing demand for food sustainability; growing a cooperative; working with Women’s Own Resource Centre; building a local library of locally grown food/drink items; setting up joint ventures; the possibility of working with the Strong and/or other Agricultural and Horticultural Societies within the area as well as anyone else who is interested in getting some “Locavore” interest, or Food Markets going. Ms Rahme also discussed her own personal business venture and its interest in setting something up in the local area. Further discussion took place regarding the Hawkers and Peddlers by-laws; getting local Farmer’s interested; funding from various groups including the Ontario Market Investment Fund through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Community development program through FedNor.

Ms. Rahme and Ms. Thompson were thanked for attending and left the meeting.

General Discussion: Updates on the highway’s progress were discussed. Edna Coughlin brought in the new Discovery Routes Trails Map (Bike Trails) which have been updated to include the trail going around Lake Bernard and Eagle Lake. The EDO position and the Strategic Plan were also briefly talked about with a plan to discuss further at the June meeting. Further items for discussion included the South River/Sundridge Airport; the Region 12 Tourism area which includes the Almaguin Region: more of this to be discussed at the AHED meeting; update on LHIN’s progress and the Family Health Team in Burk’s Falls; provincial parks, specifically Mikisew parks and some concerns that they aren’t open this weekend. More of this will be discussed at following meetings. Harve is to get back to the secretary with some information regarding Mikisew Provincial Park.

Chair Merlyn Snow welcomed the following guests from the Ministry of Transportation at 10:30 a.m.: Gord Rennie, Bruce Sumber, Sue Marsh, and Doug Herbrand. 2

Further information provided included: Finger Boards are already present with distance markers; Algonquin signage has to be discussed with Algonquin Park directly; Parks Ontario falls under TOD signage rules & regulations; Information on the available land to the municipalities; discussed Community message board and its regulations; Municipal Decorative signs and its regulations; Municipalities should come back to MTO with some various scenarios as to signage; Sue is to look into 4 municipalities going into 1 Municipal Decorative Sign.

CAEDA members expressed some concerns regarding the Hwy 124 shortcut through Rodeo Rd and O’Brien Rd and are looking for the data on the traffic counters. The same concern was mentioned regarding Mikisew Park and the Golf Course and shortcuts which will be used to get to them.

Mr. Rennie suggested a drive through of the 4 municipalities some time in the future with members of CAEDA. Guests from Ministry of Transportation were thanked and left the meeting.

Correspondence: Letter received from Strong Township regarding administration fee. Michelle is to look into previously signed resolutions regarding fees.

Resolution: Moved by: Bill de Vries Seconded by: Edna Coughlin Be it resolved that this committee does hereby recommend to councils that the Central Association pay the administrating township $100.00 per month for an administration fee. Carried.
