FBI Firearms Instructor Course

FBI FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL APRIL 3 - 14, 2017 MOBILE METRO RANGE MOBILE, ALABAMA

The Mobile Office of the FBI and the APOSTC Law Enforcement Academy – Baldwin County are conducting an 80-hour FBI Firearms Instructor Course. This two-week course will be held April 3 – 7 & 10 - 14, 2017. Class will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Mobile Metro Range (12251 Tanner Williams Road, Mobile, AL 36608). The tuition for this class is $100.00 which includes class supplies, instructor CD, golf shirt, refreshments, bottled water, etc.

Upon completion of this course each student will be recognized by APOSTC as a qualified firearms instructor. Upon completion of this course, instructors will be able to conduct all of their department’s firearm qualifications including night/low light training, combat training, rifle and shotgun training courses.

Requirements for passing this course include:

 A score of 90% or better on the firing range  85% or better on written exams  Acceptable rating on student presentations

Note to Training Coordinators: This is not a novelty course. It is desired that your organization send Instructor Trainees that will actively participate in your organization’s Firearms Training program. Students must possess above average shooting skills. This course is NOT designed to teach students to shoot. It is designed to teach them how to teach others to shoot.

Pre-Qualification: Pre-Qualification will be conducted on Tuesday February 21, Monday March 13, and Monday March 27 @ 8:00AM at the Mobile Metro Range. All officers wishing to attend the 2-week instructor course MUST attend the Firearms Instructor Pre-Qualification where they will be required to qualify with a score of 90% or better on three different courses with a semi-automatic handgun . Qualifying shooters will be ranked for consideration using their prequalification scores. Officers will be allowed one attempt per prequalification date and may only attend two (2) of the three scheduled prequalification dates. Officers need to contact the Academy to register for their pre- qualification dates. Upon registration, officers will be sent the courses to be fired during prequalification so the officers may practice the courses prior to their attempt to qualify.

Each student must have a minimum of 150 rounds of semi-automatic ammunition for prequalification. It is highly recommended that students bring more ammunition to prequalification in case the student must re-shoot a course.

Equipment needed for two-week course:

 SERVICE WEAPONS ONLY!!  Semi-automatic pistol, 9mm or larger with holster and 1500 rounds of ammunition  Department rifle or subgun w/ sling (if available); 500 rounds of ammunition. A two-point sling is preferred, but any sling will suffice.  Department shotgun (if available)  25 rounds of 12 gauge rifled slugs, and 25 rounds of 00 buckshot  Eye and Ear protection (complete ear coverage preferred)  Soft body armor  Appropriate range wear including ball cap with bill and wet weather gear  Flashlight for night firing
