Forest Service Requirements for Campers

Campers must have a shovel, axe and a bucket with them in case of wildfires.

You are required to check with the Forest Ranger to see if a campfire is permitted before you camp.

Check with Rangers to see what current bear activity is. Also check for wildcat activity.

Don’t feed the wild animals, keep your distance from them.

Keep children close and supervised at all times. Children make great snacks for bears and other wildlife.

During high fire danger smoking may only be permitted in your vehicle. Regardless, please remain diligent and careful with fire! If you are responsible for starting a forest fire, Montana law requires that you pay the costs of putting it out. That could cost you millions!
