I am pleased to offer you a conditional one-year appointment as a part-time lecturer in the Department/School of ______at California State University, Los Angeles. In partial fulfillment of this appointment you are being offered «Units» units for Fall semester, 2016. Your appointment will begin on 8/18/16 and end on 5/26/17.
The salary for the conditional contract this semester is $ «Per_Unit_rate» per unit, for a total of $ «Total_Salary». Deductions will be made for federal and state withholding. Your conditional contract this semester automatically expires on the date listed above and carries no guarantee of contracts in any subsequent semester. Contracts in subsequent semesters covered by this one-year appointment are subject to the conditions described below. The salary you are offered for this appointment is your base salary.
If there are courses not being taught by full-time or FERP faculty or by graduate teaching assistants during the remaining semesters of this conditional one year appointment, your teaching assignment will be in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
For this 2-semester appointment you will receive 12 monthly paychecks. You receive six paychecks for each semester. The breakdown of these paychecks are as follows: Fall semester will be paid the end of September, October, November, December, January and August. Spring semester will be paid the end of February, March, April, May, June and July. The last paychecks for the Fall and Spring will be released during the last three months of your one-year appointment in which you have no teaching assignment.
In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you are expected to hold weekly office hours at the rate of 20 minutes per unit taught at times and on days when affected students are normally in attendance.
Your performance will be evaluated in accord with established criteria and procedures. Copies of the University, College and Department evaluation procedures and policies will be sent to you upon receipt of your acceptance of this offer. In accordance with state and federal law you are required to provide documentation attesting to your identity and legal right to work in the United States, sign the loyalty oath and complete tax related information concerning deductions in the Office of Human Resource Management (HRM), Administration Building 606. You must provide this documentation each time you are separated and re-appointed by the University. Please contact Benefits (HRM) regarding possible eligibility. Please see Attachment A.

All part-time lecturer contracts are contingent upon total enrollment in all classes offered each semester and the status of the University’s budget. When such enrollment or funds are insufficient, some classes must be canceled and faculty reassigned, thus necessitating the cancellation or reduction of some part-time conditional contracts. We will make every effort to notify you as soon as possible should it be necessary to cancel or reduce your units this semester.
You are represented by the California Faculty Association, a union of 27,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches who teach in the California State University system.
