Effectively Immediately, the Department Is Temporarily Halting the Inclusion of the Field

Effectively immediately, the Department is temporarily halting the inclusion of the Field Operations Course as part of the Snowmobile and ATV Safety Education Classes. Prior to this notice the Field Operations Course was an optional part of the programs and its use was determined by the individual instructor group.

This decision allows the Department to re-evaluate the snowmobile and ATV field operations course as part of the overall Snowmobile and ATV Safety Education Programs.

Utilizing the stationary exercises is highly recommended, to locate lesson plans for the exercises visit the Instructor Corner WEB site at http://dnr.wi.gov/volunteer/instructorcorner/ then either ATV Education Instructor Lesson Plans or Snowmobile Education Instructor Lesson Plans, link located in the middle of the page.

Lesson plans that include using a snowmobile as a training aid for stationary exercises are:

 Snowmobile Operation – Driving Positions  Snowmobile Pre-Ride Inspection  Name of Snowmobile Parts / Controls

Lesson plans that include using an ATV as a training aid for stationary exercises are:

 Braking, Parking, Turning  Hills, Traversing Slopes, Group Riding  ATV Parts  ATV Pre-Ride Inspection (Check First Form A and Check First Form B)  ATV Start-Up Procedure (Bone C Form A and Bone C Form B)

Once we have had a chance to re-evaluate the field operations courses and have made a decision regarding their future you will be notified.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact your Recreational Safety Warden.
