Instructor: Mrs. Díaz-Madero Text (s) Díaz José M., AP Spanish Preparing for the Language Examination Third Edition Kanter Abby, Encuentros Maravillosos Gramática a través de la Literatura Jarvis Ana and Lebredo Raquel., Avancemos 4 Quizzes Wednesday Tests Friday
Goals To help students:
Express themselves in Spanish throughout the class to become proficient in using the language to deal with daily situations Read and write authentic texts and demonstrate comprehension through oral and written evaluations
Evaluation Tests - 15% Quizzes - 15% Listening, Speaking - 15% Reading – 15% Writing (Compositions, bell work) - 15% Homework - 10% Presentation every nine weeks - 15%
Presentations Every Nine Weeks the student will do 5 presentations on the topics the students want in Spanish. If the presentations are presented after the assigned date there will be a reduction of 10 points for every day students are late. Remember you want to speak the language so you want to present your ideas.
In class Activities Students are expected to immediately work on “Actividad Inicial” when the bell rings. Some of these activities should be six lines in length. One weekly entry should be a summary and response to a broadcast in Spanish found on the radio or Internet (citation should be listed for source). Be creative and make it interesting. Other activities will be used to help you develop your listening skills and speaking of the language as well as to assess your understanding. You will work independently or with a partner on these activities. Your participation is strongly recommended to contribute to the learning process and taking notes in class is highly encouraged to help you clarify ideas.
I expect you to:
To be on time Be prepared Follow directions the first time they are given Be ready to participate Work to your best potential
Reading, Writing assignments These are essential for the understanding and speaking of the language since they broaden your vocabulary and reinforce key components of the dynamics of the language. Assignments must be read and completed by the time allowed so you can participate in class activities and do well in the tests. The best way to understand them:
Read carefully Take notes as you read If necessary read them more than once. No one knows you better than yourself, you know by now what it takes to do well in a class
Class Conduct Eating is not allowed in class All students are expected to be on time in class Cheating and other academic misconduct will not be tolerated and may constitute the basis for receiving a Disciplinary Referral, parents being called and receiving a U in conduct Use of cell phones and/or any other electronic devices during class is prohibited Homework done in the classroom will not be taken, I prefer you turn it the following day to think and understand what you are doing and do it well
Make Up Work Students are required to make up daily work. If student is absent for several weeks, they have one day for every day absent to turn in make up work before it will be counted as a permanent “0” Students are required to make up quizzes, tests and major assignments. If the students miss a quiz or test, the students will have from Wednesday to Wednesday to make up quizzes and Friday to Friday to make up tests I do not give” Incompletes.” If missing work is not made up within a week, the missing grades will remain “0’s” Unexcused absences will result in no opportunity for make up and “0’s” will be given for missed work
